Political/ Charity Shirts Review

Mar 29, 2012 10:36

While there are many wonderful reviews on this group, I've noticed that there aren't many (or any?) reviews from the following two sites. So, I figured I'd help fill that void for the other fat fans of either group. The first review will be for the Tracy Reese for Obama (Runway to Win) election sweatshirt and the next two are from Sevenly. For those of you that don't know, Sevenly is a website that sells t shirts for a different cause each week-- and $7 of each purchase goes directly to the charity. The two shirts here are for Thirst Relief International and Kiva, but they work with many organizations. . . and the shirts are cute to boot :)

My beef with the Obama campaign is that while they go up to a XXL in many of the things for women, there isn't a size chart to be found on the entire website. As we all know, a size XXL for a woman can be anything from a size 12-24, so I figured my best bet would be to buy and return if things didn't work out. Sevenly does have size charts, but I was really hoping their size XXL would be on the looser side of fits.

So, how'd they fit?

Reviewer information: 5'4'', 260ish lbs, size 22 or so lately. 42 D bra.

Tracy Reese for Obama Sweatshirt: First and foremost, this thing was expensive. $75. I know. I know! But damnit, it's cute as hell and . . . for a good cause. Right? RIGHT? Anyway, the shirt is really well made-- you can't really tell on the website, but the stitching all around isn't just red, but it's a super adorable red, white, and blue (it somehow manages not to be tacky). The sweatshirt is of solid quality, not too thin, but not so thick you won't be able to wear it outside of winter. I would say that the detailing elevates this beyond your normal $25-$30 F21 grey sweatshirt, but I'm not sure anything other than the names (Reese and Obama) really make it $75. That said, I don't regret the purchase at all and am actually rather happy with it.

So, the fit. I got an XXL and honestly? It's way too big. I realize this style is supposed to be sort of big and slouchy, but I think I can fairly say that this could easily fit someone a size or two bigger than me. It is cotton, so I'm going to try to shrink it down a bit rather than returning it, but it is definitely generous on the sizing (hooray for political fats!). FWIW: I wear a long cami under this, but that's just because I like my crotch to be covered with shirts like this and it's just a titch too short for that.

Sevenly V Neck: I picked up the Sevenly V Neck in an XXL and it's a bit snug. Now, it's not impossibly tight or anything-- in fact, I'm wearing it today (but I'm wearing it with my looser in the waist jeans, since the shirt is so tight that I don't need my jeans creating lumps I don't naturally have). If you like things tight like I do and are my size, then I'd try the shirt--- but if you like things a bit looser, this shirt would work well on someone who is an 18 or so.  One thing that I actually like is that the v on the neck is both wide and somewhat deep-- I love that the shirt shows a nice amount of cleavage and is sexy. I'm wearing some dark jeans, cute sandals, and lots of chunky gold jewelry today and I feel extra cute.

Sevenly Flowy V Neck: This shirt is ridiculously short. Like, it hits my natural waist. . .and leaves a solid 6+ inches between that and my pants.I should have guessed as much by looking at the size chart, but man. . .short. I wear it with a cami underneath for running errands and stuff, but this is not something I'd wear outside of yoga or grocery shopping on a Saturday (if that makes any sense).
