when you adore a pair of pants, buy multiple pairs and love them while they last. I mean, everything dies right? but commercially, you have the opportunity for multiple options of the same thing. Patches? ugly and, fugly and not as comfy ever as the original pants.
I totally do this when I can, but by the time I determine a pair of pants is working for me (after the wash-and-wear twice), they're usually out of my size.
This happens to me with almost everything I love, be it clothing, makeup, food. The items are out of my size, discontinued, or out of season by the time I determine my undying appreciation for them, argh!
Argh! The thigh rub is a killer on all of my pants and totally bums me out. I do have a place here in Portland that is great at repairing jeans. I have no idea how she works her magic, but the woman is able to sew up jeans that have rubbed thin/torn in the inner thigh and you really can't tell she patched them up.
The shop is one door east on Burnside from 28th, next to a dry cleaner.
Oh, I'm so sorry - but I don't have a way to upload a pic right now.
The technique she seems to use is to sew matching thread back and forth over a large area of the fabric and blending it in - sewing in the direction of the fabric threads. I'm so daft at sewing I don't know a better way to describe it, but perhaps that helps?
