What I find interesting is his distaste for negative interaction in a combo game; the attraction of a combo game is in assembling and exploiting the synergies - having opponents interfere with them could be extremely frustrating ( Read more... )

It's barely been a week since I got the final expansion to Race for the Galaxy, The Brink of War, and I've played over 30 games of it.

Several have been 2-player advanced, and takeovers definitely have become more frequent. In the previous expansion Rebel vs Imperium, a takeover in the 2-player game happened very rarely - in less than 10% of games ( Read more... )

Race for the Galaxy is my favourite game, due to its depth, its swiftness, its scalability, its balance, its variety and its longevity. There's more, but it's better that I stop there.

Anyway, I believe most of the criticisms of it are unfounded.

Race for the Galaxy, with itsfirst expansion and second expansion is one of my absolute favourite games.

I bought it as I purchased Dominion and the standalone expansion Dominion: Intrigue, spending a large chunk of money knowing nothing more than that Race for the Galaxy was the other really good non-collectible card game and that it was deeper ( Read more... )
