Doctor's Log #74: 09-05-10: Brrrrrrrrrr.

May 09, 2010 21:33

Spent the morning looking after the boys (straightforward, they like Spongebob, they like reading to each other, they like playing on the Wii, and I know what they like for breakfast, and our friends' wee girl (not straightforward, 5 minute attention span, throws breakfast around, and will only wear pink). Her parents came around at 10, we had a fry up, and then it was time for the swim.

Elie, in May. Swimming in the sea is so different from swimming in the pool. Interestingly, it's not being able to see the bottom that makes it different - the sea in Elie is so clear we can see the bottom all the way out. The waves are not that big a deal either, TI teaches how to cut through the water, whether in the pool or the sea, so it's not that big a deal. The difficulty is how cold on the face it all is - the freezing cold water on the face initiates the diving reflex, so when I first turned my head to breathe, I opened my mouth, but couldn't actually breathe in. Very odd. It all settled down after a bit.

We didn't swim far, we were in the water for about 50 minutes all told.

One thing is for certain - it was f%^&*£g freezing.

Wet suit fits nice, though.
