While I suppose the rest of you are grateful for at least one gift from the trees, if nothing for sentimentality's sake--

[In reference to the photo in the pictureframe he has laying facedown on his nightstand.]--I am afraid I must ask why the Captain always seems to insist upon burying us in sweets. Not all of us are particular fans of candy, ( Read more... )

#ganondorf, #redd, so sentimental (not sentimental no), roundears are stupid, holidays, !event, you're stupid and your boat is stupid, time to offend someone, #phoenix, marmas, #zelda

I failed to see the point in the ridiculous tradition.

Apparently it is a religious holiday or...something. Based on the same sect as the god who lit local flora on fire to garner his prophet's attention.

As I've said, ridiculous.

I am still curious where all the candy came into play, though.

[And what the hell he should do with it.]

[Zelda's been listening to Ganondorf and Razer. This is also the second time she's heard about Marmas, which she assumes could have something to do with Jak, and she will ask him later, but at this particular moment she's too annoyed to say anything.]

Your acquaintances are almost as difficult as Jak's, Princess.

Although I would supposed, given the history, that he is more the Praxis to your King Damas than the Erol to your Jak.

[She grits her teeth. Why does he always compare her to Jak? He makes her think altogether too much.

And unfortunately? She actually gets what he's saying.]

You could say that.

[His voice is low, intrigued and amused at the same time.]

...Familiar with that tidbit of history, are we?

Grateful doesn't even begin to describe.

We celebrated Marmas. It was pretty fun. We also did solstice last year, but now how I'm used to it. Missed it this year. Oh well.

I suppose everyone is welcome to their own opinion of the Captain's gifts.

[Razer is, of course, less than impressed.]

Did you, really? Was the celebration passenger- or crew-initiated?

I love mine, sorry to say.

Umm...I'm not entirely sure. I think it may have been passenger? Don't remember who started it, sad to say. It was a good time though.

[While he's in general agreement with most everything Razer said, one thing stands out and catches his attention.]

Excuse me, Razer, but... Marmas?

farfairersoul December 30 2009, 17:25:50 UTC
Yes?

Ah, do you not celebrate it out there on the Brink?

I might have heard mention of it, but I'm not entirely certain. What exactly is it a celebration of?

...Hm. Well, you are rather far-removed from the mainland, I suppose it would be understandable for you and yours to be unaware of the holiday.

Mar's birthday, Phoenix.

[Chuckle.]

Which makes it Jak's too, I suppose...

And what precisely is "Marmas"?

farfairersoul December 30 2009, 20:29:32 UTC
Since you apparently predate the holiday, if I am not mistaken, I do not suppose you would be aware of it.

Marmas is the celebration of the anniversary of the birth of Mar. He saved the world a few times, built the largest city on the planet--which swallowed up your Sandover--and all manner of interesting things.

[He's also Jak.]

The day is a good excuse to throw a party.

Fascinating.

[Underneath the sarcasm, however, she's rather curious. There are no real celebrations back home, certainly nothing to celebrate a single person and their feats.]

I assume this city has something to do with the "Old Haven" you mentioned before?

farfairersoul December 31 2009, 05:28:24 UTC
Haven. Population of several million, one of three proper cities remaining on the planet, based in the same area as your village originally was. For quite a while it was assumed to be the only reliable stronghold remaining against the Metalheads, but a great deal of that was propaganda.

Jak originates there, I believe.
