Yuletide (Shocking!) Reveal

Jan 01, 2010 20:45

I fic, therefore I post.

*cleans rust off journal*

...*removes cobwebs*

>_>

:D!

So, I signed up for Yuletide to flex my writing muscles a little, and ended up writing The Stand fic for some peregrina person, which is... yeah, straight out of the Twist Machine, yet awesome.

I wrote Runnin' with the Devil -- it's Flagg/Lloyd, heavily Lloyd-centric; ( Read more... )

fic, yuletide, the stand, flagg/lloyd

So, like, dude, I owe you apologies that have apologies that have probably had time to go off and have their own apologetic little grandchild apologies. Because for some reason it's been THREE FUCKING MONTHS since I knew you'd written this - and yet I've not been here. Bad indyhat. Bad.

However. I have read it (just really goddamn late). And it's damn good:

The kid looked like a young Tony Curtis, if Tony had come out of his mother's ass and suffered from a terminal case of acne and ugliness.

There's so much that's good about this story, so I apologise for calling attention to this of all things, but it just tickled me - lovely.

Lloyd has always been firm in his belief that masturbation is one of mankind's greatest inventions.

Firm. *snerk*

And it could have been worse, Lloyd assures himself solemnly. He could have been jacking off to Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. LOL! Nobody but you uses the word 'solemnly', hardly. Wonderful ( ... )

Dude, you're going all Orwellian on me D:

I was in the process of being eaten and slowly digested by uni these last couple of weeks, so I empathize with your work pwnage. ~_~

Thanks, and back atcha! Work pwnage sucks :/

And are you kidding? You write, I read. It just takes a while. Like, four months. Ahem. I did really like it, despite not knowing the canon stuffz. Your writing rocks, y'know?

I AM PRETTY SURE THE FIRM PART WAS AN ACCIDENT.

Uh huh.

'Solemnly' is a truly awesome word and you always manage to use it like it's anything but solemn. 'S funny like that.

So to answer your question, mostly I've been up to getting pwned by work, but then I watched Generation Kill and OMFG, I'm now a certifiable lame-ass n00b GK fangirl. It's tragic. So tragic that I already wrote one short fic and am now about 6K into something else. Do you know it? I think you'd adore it, except for the part where it's a bit close to home. But seriously, it's like a gazillion times ( ... )

I've seen GK! I even had 'Teenage Dirtbag' stuck in my head for a week afterwards, dammit. ~_~ It's a great mini, and I dunno if I'd say it hits too close to home (probably does for guys who served in combat units), it's more that being in the army has made me a little disenchanted with modern-ish military-centric canons in general, I think. Basically, I love the series, but I've never been very interested in the fandom. Probably just didn't find a character to fixate on.

Super-ovbious super-hot pairing is Brad/Nate, I'm guessing? :P

There's a small GK cast in TR (used to be, at least -- I left the game about a month ago, haven't really kept track), too. Ray's fucking awesome. Have you seen The Wire, btw? The actor plays there, and the character is even more of a motormouth punkass (and a more tragic one). xD ( ... )

Oh, yay, you've seen it! Wasn't sure you would have. (Should know better; even if you hadn't seen it, I bet you would've reconned the shit out of it ;)

Super-ovbious super-hot pairing is Brad/Nate, I'm guessing? :P

Super-obvious super-hot pairing is super-hot and super-obvious ;)

You left TR?? Man. I hope the circumstances were okay?

Ray is the bomb. And yeah, I've seen The Wire ... I loved Ziggy. In that "I want to kill you for being such a fuckup, but dude, you've got a duck, and you fucking love it," incoherent kind of a way. I prefer him in GK; his role in The Wire is too sad ( ... )

Mrrf... well, TR basically grew stale so me and a couple of friends decided to jump ship. I don't miss it, but I do miss RPing in a multifandom game (there's a character from the Shield I'm considering apping somewhere), so I might try out another one once this semester is over.

Yeaaaah, Ziggy was a mess, but a lovable mess. The Wire isn't exactly the most cheerful series out there, is it? :D

I'm in mid season 4 of the Sopranos and just finished marathoning The Shield... I can't say I can recommend it 100%, but not because it's not good, but because it's SOUL CRUSHING AND WILL CHEW, NOM AND SPIT YOU OUT. More so than the Wire, for me. DX I watched the finale last night, and I just couldn't fall asleep afterwards. Especially since my favorite character (i.e. the resident fuckup >_>) got the most haunting ending. I'm used to my favorites being killed off, but this was waaay beyond that. Waaaaaaaaah. .__ ( ... )

loooooooool yeah there are other multifandom games! 'cept most of them are flooded with anime characters, and I have slight animephobia okay. >_> lastvoyages is a game I've been stalking for a while and the concept is really neat, so if I app, there's a good chance it'll be there.

The Wire had a great balance, yeah. Though the seasonal ending montages tended towards depressing anyway. XD I felt worse for Frank than for Ziggy, honestly, but it's not like there wasn't enough woe to go around.

The Shield also had a good dark humor quotient to offset the horrible stuff, only it's more of a tragedy overall, while the Wire is bittersweet. I'd say still watch it (SO I CAN HAS SOMEONE TO SHARE THIS DAMN SERIES WITH Dx), but have a valium nearby for the finale. For srs, it's one of the hardest things I've ever had to watch.

DON'T U BE STARRIN AT MY ZOMBIE PANTZ THEY'RE RLY SHY. ALSO THEY BIET.

I'm online most of the time! Ocasionally uni-pwned anyway, but gimme a poke and I'll probably answer. MY BL00DZ AWAITZ U.

Animephobia! Heheh. I know what you mean though, that's not somewhere I've ever felt the need to go.

I was sooooooo sad for Frank in The Wire. Really, I think I liked him best out of all the characters. Not that I don't love McNulty and Bunk and everyone, but seriously, I just quietly bonded with Frank and his sad hound face in a way that just destroyed me at the end of s2.

Maybe I'll look into The Shield ... I have some Amazon vouchers burning a hole in my pocket!

UR ZOMBEH PANTZ R BLUSHIN! HAHAH PINK ZOMBEH PANTZ FTW. AIII!!1! UR ZOMBEH PANTZ HAZ BITED ME! D:

I need to throw myself offline right now so I can get shit done, but I'll try to find you later in the week. I'm going to need a break from grading papers! D:

I've watched Trigun! And Avatar, which is anime-esque. :D But yeah, I dunno, I have a hard time grasping the anime tropes, for one, and there are a lot of artistic sub-styles that bug me in it, like the ones with HUGE EYES, NO NOSES and EMOTICONS FOR FACES. ._.

I was traumatized by Pokemon as a child, okay. D: It usurped my favorite cartoons. Classics such as this oneGod, yeah, poor Frank. I think he was my favorite, too (him and possibly Stringer, heh, but for entirely different reasons), and I'm kinda glad I spoiled myself about what happens to him, because it was hard to take as it was. Hound face, so true. XD His last name actually kinda reminded me of the Russian word for hound (sobaka ( ... )

LOL! Indeed. And about the tropes, I'm just not that into them. They have a lot in common with the regular tropes in fandom that annoy me (maybe 'cause I've been guilty of some of them in the past ... *COUGHemasculatingoneofthemenCOUGH*)

I've barely seen Pokemon. I'm okay with this :)

Classics such as this one.

MAKE IT STOP! MY EYES! IT'S LIKE INSECT CARE-BEARS IN THE FOREST!!!

God, yeah, poor Frank. I think he was my favorite, too (him and possibly Stringer, heh, but for entirely different reasons), and I'm kinda glad I spoiled myself about what happens to him, because it was hard to take as it was. Hound face, so true. XD His last name actually kinda reminded me of the Russian word for hound (sobaka)...

See, I knew it wasn't just me! A couple of days after I'd finished watching s2, during which time I was thinking about Frank a lot, it finally hit me that it must, surely, be a deliberate joke, little hound, basically a diminutive for sobaka. Right? Of course, I've never ( ... )
