I fic, therefore I post.

:D!
So, I signed up for Yuletide to flex my writing muscles a little, and ended up writing The Stand fic for some
peregrina person, which is... yeah, straight out of the Twist Machine, yet awesome.
I wrote
Runnin' with the Devil -- it's Flagg/Lloyd, heavily Lloyd-centric;
(
However. I have read it (just really goddamn late). And it's damn good:
The kid looked like a young Tony Curtis, if Tony had come out of his mother's ass and suffered from a terminal case of acne and ugliness.
There's so much that's good about this story, so I apologise for calling attention to this of all things, but it just tickled me - lovely.
Lloyd has always been firm in his belief that masturbation is one of mankind's greatest inventions.
Firm. *snerk*
And it could have been worse, Lloyd assures himself solemnly. He could have been jacking off to Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
LOL! Nobody but you uses the word 'solemnly', hardly. Wonderful.
(And for the record, never read it, never seen any adaptations, but this, uh, stands pretty damn well on its own.)
You may now return to your regularly-scheduled activity of hating me for not having read this sooner. Carry on, soldier ;)

Hiii. D: Sorry it took me so long to answer -- I was in the process of being eaten and slowly digested by uni these last couple of weeks, so I empathize with your work pwnage. ~_~
Thanks for reading it! :D I honestly wasn't expecting you to, since you're not familiar with the book (there's a miniseries, too, but it's kinda... cheesy/campy/sketchy -- not that the book is a masterpiece. It's got Americanism {is that a word?} overdose, for one, but it has its moments) and the fic is pretty context-reliant, but I'm really happy you liked anyway. x3
I AM PRETTY SURE THE FIRM PART WAS AN ACCIDENT.
Really.
>____>
looooool and I haven't even noticed I use solemnly much, but it is an awesome word, innit?
I'd try to corrupt you into reading the Stand just 'cause I love Lloyd so much, but it's like... 1000 pages, because Stephen King has no impulse control when it comes to writing. Still, it's pretty nifty and an easy read (but that's 11-year-old me speaking -- I haven't read the whole thing since, and my attention span has gotten suspiciously shorter).
So hay, what have you been up to?

Dude, you're going all Orwellian on me D:

Thanks, and back atcha! Work pwnage sucks :/
And are you kidding? You write, I read. It just takes a while. Like, four months. Ahem. I did really like it, despite not knowing the canon stuffz. Your writing rocks, y'know?
I AM PRETTY SURE THE FIRM PART WAS AN ACCIDENT.
Uh huh.
'Solemnly' is a truly awesome word and you always manage to use it like it's anything but solemn. 'S funny like that.
So to answer your question, mostly I've been up to getting pwned by work, but then I watched Generation Kill and OMFG, I'm now a certifiable lame-ass n00b GK fangirl. It's tragic. So tragic that I already wrote one short fic and am now about 6K into something else. Do you know it? I think you'd adore it, except for the part where it's a bit close to home. But seriously, it's like a gazillion times awesome and has all these minor characters in it that I just know you would write fic for. (Obviously I'm into the super-obvious super-hot pairing. Obvious indyhat is obvious. But I have so much love for the other characters. Especially Ray. Ray is a foul-mouthed filthy SOB and I loves him.)
What's new with you? And when will the uni finally let you go? I'm sure there are whole chapters of the Geneva Convention about how this isn't cool and they have to stop already.

Super-ovbious super-hot pairing is Brad/Nate, I'm guessing? :P
There's a small GK cast in TR (used to be, at least -- I left the game about a month ago, haven't really kept track), too. Ray's fucking awesome. Have you seen The Wire, btw? The actor plays there, and the character is even more of a motormouth punkass (and a more tragic one). xD
I'm pretty sure uni has forsaken those pesky human rights altogether, but I'm probably wrapping it up in a year or so. Other than that... it's been kinda a rough year generally (not uni-wise, just various stuffs), but hopefully it's getting better. I've gotten into a crime show groove, apparently, so I'm belatedly watching the Sopranos and the Shield, and otherwise drifting in a bubble of... bubbleness. >_> Might get my ass in gear and write something, eventually.

Super-obvious super-hot pairing is super-hot and super-obvious ;)
You left TR?? Man. I hope the circumstances were okay?
Ray is the bomb. And yeah, I've seen The Wire ... I loved Ziggy. In that "I want to kill you for being such a fuckup, but dude, you've got a duck, and you fucking love it," incoherent kind of a way. I prefer him in GK; his role in The Wire is too sad.
*cheerleads you through uni and writes to Amnesty about them*
Sorry you're having a rough year, dude :( Anything I can do?
And watching The Sopranos all the way through is on my list. I hear good things about The Shield, but I've never seen any of it. One of those box sets I guess I'll have to mainline at some point (I inhaled the whole of The Wire in a couple of months, in between work and everything else).
Writing ... would be good. When you've got time.

Yeaaaah, Ziggy was a mess, but a lovable mess. The Wire isn't exactly the most cheerful series out there, is it? :D
I'm in mid season 4 of the Sopranos and just finished marathoning The Shield... I can't say I can recommend it 100%, but not because it's not good, but because it's SOUL CRUSHING AND WILL CHEW, NOM AND SPIT YOU OUT. More so than the Wire, for me. DX I watched the finale last night, and I just couldn't fall asleep afterwards. Especially since my favorite character (i.e. the resident fuckup >_>) got the most haunting ending. I'm used to my favorites being killed off, but this was waaay beyond that. Waaaaaaaaah. .__.
Re: bad year, it's just health stuffs and family stuffs... I hope it'll sort itself out, because it's a little zombifying. :'|
*paws* I'd love to chat sometime if work unpwns you!

Ziggy was just epically fucking tragic. I loved him (and his duck) but yeah, possibly not most cheery thing ever. Although one of the things I love about The Wire (and GK, for that matter) is that no matter how bleak things are, there's always at the very least some gallows humour going on, always some levity somewhere. Mostly.
I hear very good things about The Shield; it's something I can imagine inhaling over the course of a month or two. And I still haven't seen The Sopranos all the way through (it was always on too late). Sorry you got broken by The Shield though D:
And eh, sorry things aren't great for you. UR ZOMBIE PANTZ R SHOWIN.
Definitely, to the chatting! I saw you online earlier, actually, but was speaking to my husband, who's overseas at a conference, and then you dropped offline again. I'll be away for a few days but hopefully can catch up soon and talk nonsense at you until your ears bleed :D UR BL00DZ, LET ME SPEAK U IT.

The Wire had a great balance, yeah. Though the seasonal ending montages tended towards depressing anyway. XD I felt worse for Frank than for Ziggy, honestly, but it's not like there wasn't enough woe to go around.
The Shield also had a good dark humor quotient to offset the horrible stuff, only it's more of a tragedy overall, while the Wire is bittersweet. I'd say still watch it (SO I CAN HAS SOMEONE TO SHARE THIS DAMN SERIES WITH Dx), but have a valium nearby for the finale. For srs, it's one of the hardest things I've ever had to watch.
DON'T U BE STARRIN AT MY ZOMBIE PANTZ THEY'RE RLY SHY. ALSO THEY BIET.
I'm online most of the time! Ocasionally uni-pwned anyway, but gimme a poke and I'll probably answer. MY BL00DZ AWAITZ U.

I was sooooooo sad for Frank in The Wire. Really, I think I liked him best out of all the characters. Not that I don't love McNulty and Bunk and everyone, but seriously, I just quietly bonded with Frank and his sad hound face in a way that just destroyed me at the end of s2.
Maybe I'll look into The Shield ... I have some Amazon vouchers burning a hole in my pocket!
UR ZOMBEH PANTZ R BLUSHIN! HAHAH PINK ZOMBEH PANTZ FTW. AIII!!1! UR ZOMBEH PANTZ HAZ BITED ME! D:
I need to throw myself offline right now so I can get shit done, but I'll try to find you later in the week. I'm going to need a break from grading papers! D:

I was traumatized by Pokemon as a child, okay. D: It usurped my favorite cartoons. Classics such as this one.
God, yeah, poor Frank. I think he was my favorite, too (him and possibly Stringer, heh, but for entirely different reasons), and I'm kinda glad I spoiled myself about what happens to him, because it was hard to take as it was. Hound face, so true. XD His last name actually kinda reminded me of the Russian word for hound (sobaka)...
I've seen the full Shield DVD set on Amazon UK relatively cheap (relatively for 7 seasons and compared to Amazon US, that is... it's still pretty moneyful x_x) -- am sorta considering asking for it as a bday present, just for the ~speshul features~. Obtaining the actual episodes hasn't been much of a problem. >__>
HA SRVS U RITE FOR MOCKIN P00R SHAI PANTZ0RZ!!1 >8D
Next three days or so I'll be projectin' for uni so my availability might be on the crappy side, but poke me and I'll try to take a break! :{

LOL! Indeed. And about the tropes, I'm just not that into them. They have a lot in common with the regular tropes in fandom that annoy me (maybe 'cause I've been guilty of some of them in the past ... *COUGHemasculatingoneofthemenCOUGH*)
I've barely seen Pokemon. I'm okay with this :)
Classics such as this one.
MAKE IT STOP! MY EYES! IT'S LIKE INSECT CARE-BEARS IN THE FOREST!!!

See, I knew it wasn't just me! A couple of days after I'd finished watching s2, during which time I was thinking about Frank a lot, it finally hit me that it must, surely, be a deliberate joke, little hound, basically a diminutive for sobaka. Right? Of course, I've never acquired any evidence for this theory.
Hope you get The Shield for your birthday! I'll look into it.
MAI PRIDEZ IZ BRUIZD D:
I'll try to look for you sometime over the next few days; last couple have been a bit insane and today I've just been totally useless. (Procrastinating over my marking.)
