Thursday, 22 October 2020: Groceries I Have Known

Oct 22, 2020 12:30

About once a week, I order groceries from the Whole Foods I can see out my window. My order is always over $35...usually at least $35 x 2...so I get free delivery. Yesterday's delivery came in nine bags; somewhere in those bags were a box of fudgeicles and two frozen pizzas. (Don't judge me!) I very much wanted to deal with the bag or bags those items were in right away.

Even after the bags are emptied, they made quite the pile. Unopened, what are the chances of picking the one or two with the frozen food?

I felt the bags and found one that felt squooshy and guessed correctly that I had found the fudgeicles: ice cream is always packed in a padded, insulated bag. I started randomly opening the other eight until I chanced upon the pizzas. Then I went on emptying bags and putting everything away. Somewhere in the process, I noticed something I had never seen before: the stickers that hold the bags closed are labelled with the contents:

Next time I'll know!

In case you are thinking, "Nine bags of groceries to get through a week! My goodness!": No. These bags are not over-stuffed. The fudgeicles were alone in their bag as was the six-roll package of toilet paper. My single roll of paper towels also got its privacy. The two bags marked, "Chilled," held my fruits and vegetables, and both of them were fairly well packed. "Ambient" held the rest of my purchases, including canned mushrooms (for the pizzas), pasta, a quart of milk which should have been in a "Chilled" bag, and a Jewish apple cake, also bagged by itself.

I'm good until the middle of next week. FanSee
