Hermione attempted to push Michael off while holding onto her wand, but it was proving more and more difficult since he was starting to pry it from her fingers. Theodore cast a simple levitation spell and this separated them. They were both now floating in the air, looking extremely annoyed with him, but at least the scuffle had ended and Hermione was still in possession of her wand.
"If it's a shot at me you want then by all means..."
Theodore removed the spell. Hermione landed on the couch while Michael landed on the floor next to her. Theodore couldn't hold back a brief chuckle. Michael rose from his spot on the floor and charged at Theodore at full speed. He knew he was taking a chance, but he had to. All this pent of anger he had inside of him had to be released or it would destroy him. Theodore didn't stop him either, which surprised him. As a result Michael slammed him against the nearby wall.
"Stop it," Hermione scolded, but her words fell on deaf ears.
Michael punched Theodore in the face and from there the fight escalated. Hermione cast a spell separating them a second after Michael broke Theodore's nose. She cringed when she noticed the blood dripping down his lips. Michael looked pleased one minute and pissed off the next.
"Let me go, Hermione. I'm not done with him yet."
"You broke his nose."
"That's the worse he could do to me. He couldn't kill me, even if he tried."
"Shut up Theodore. Shut up or I'll let him finish you off."
"Is that any way to treat the man you love?"
"Your delusions of grandeur are not endearing."
"Michael, you better start talking or I'm turning you both in."
Michael glared at Hermione. He wasn't in the mood to explain himself to her. This entire thing was between him and Theodore. They were the ones with the sordid past. If she allowed them to resolve this problem then he could return to his usual job at the Ministry. Unfortunately, Michael failed to realize that Hermione was one of the most stubborn people he worked with and she wasn't going to release them until he talked. An hour passed and Michael still wasn't talking. Theodore continue to yell at him to no avail while Hermione made herself comfortable on the couch. She wondered how long it would take before Michael talked.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Hermione went to answer it.
"What are you doing here?"
"Wait, did I show up at the wrong place? This is Michael's place, right?"
"Yes. What are you doing here, Malfoy?"
"Where's Michael?"
"He's indisposed at the moment."
Draco pushed past her and the scene he saw before him made him burst into a fit of laughter. He was laughing so hard that he doubled over and started to slap his right knee lightly.
"This is not funny!"
"Did you do this to them?" Draco asked Hermione during a pause from his laughter. When she nodded he started to laugh again.
"Release us, Draco."
"Wait a minute. Since when do you call him Draco? You've hated his guts for as long as I've known you. Am I missing something here?"
Michael smirked and looked at Draco. Theodore followed his gaze. Draco stopped laughing and pulled out his wand. Hermione pulled out her own wand too, but by then it was too late. Draco had released Michael and Theodore from the spell that bound them. Now they were facing each other. Before Michael could take another swing at Theodore he said, "Stop Michael! This is ridiculous. We cannot keep holding each other accountable for the actions of our fathers. We need to put the past behind us and leave it there."
"I know that you're just as responsible for my father's death as he was."
"I didn't know he betrayed your father until I saw the article in the Prophet."
"Liar!"
Theodore attempted to reason with Michael, but he wasn't hearing any of it. Draco looked extremely bored as he listened to them squabble while Hermione was intrigued. She never knew that Michael and Theodore were friends once.
"Look Theodore. Perhaps you're right. Perhaps I am taking this too far. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to let you leave my house alive. If you can produce proof that what you're saying is true then I won't kill you. You have a week to produce this proof. Good luck and take Hermione with you on your way out."
Theodore didn't like this offer. Michael had a knack for placing him in really awkward and slightly dangerous situations. It had been for fun back then when they were friends, but now it was not. How had things changed over the years? Hermione had so many questions she wanted to ask Theodore as they exited Michael's place, but she didn't ask. Enough had been asked of him.
