The prophecy was gone. Blaise took it somewhere she would probably never find it. She hated Theodore for keeping her trapped like this because not only did she feel angry, she also felt incompetent. What would she have to lose if she showed herself to Theodore at this very moment? He wasn’t letting her go any time soon. That wouldn’t change. The only thing that would change is that he would have the knowledge that she overheard everything he had told Blaise. It hadn’t been much, but it was enough to make him think twice about underestimating her. Then she thought about her plan and decided against it. She wouldn’t be able to gain his trust by revealing this information.

At breakfast the next day she had to ask him the burning questions, “Why did you let me go outside yesterday? What’s in it for you?”

“Nothing is in it for me. I figured a nice walk might do you some good. Besides, I’ve finally figured out how to make the spell confine you to the grounds as well. Now you’ll be able to leave the manor more often, but you cannot step off the grounds,” he explained.

“You do realize you’re making me hate you more? Faux-freedom isn’t freedom at all.”

“Stop complaining and be grateful already.”

“I want my freedom, Theodore. I’ve already told you. You can’t force me to love you.”

“I know that. Your hatred is very telling. How could you hate me unless you’ve let me into your heart somehow? I’m close to getting you to love me again. I have a feeling that your hatred is just a disguised form of love.”

“It is not! My hatred is just that-hatred. Stop trying to make my feelings into something they are not.”

He broke out into a low chuckle that disgusted Hermione to no end. She excused herself from the table and went up to her bedroom. As usual he followed closely behind and upon reaching her bedroom realized she was preparing to take a shower.

“Hasn’t your stay here been comfortable? At least I’m feeding you. Could you at least thank me for taking care of you as well as I have.”

“I won’t give you that satisfaction. Now please, go away. I’m going to shower and I would rather not undress in front of you.”

“It’s not like I haven’t seen you naked before.”

“That’s not the point! Go away! Do I have to mention things you had me swear I would never mention again? Do I have to resort to that?”

“You might have to. I’ve made it a point to forget about those things and I am no longer embarrassed by them. So go ahead mention anyway.”

Hermione sat on her bed and ran her fingers through her hair out of frustration. Theodore sat next to her. She started to edge away from him, but he placed one of his hands on her hips to keep her close to him. She turned to curse at him, but he smashed his lips over hers before she could utter one profanity. She started to protest, but the hex regulating her behavior kicked in and made her stop struggling. The kiss caused a burst of sensation to run through both of their chests and presumably their hearts. At this rate the probability of a rekindled romance was better than finding lightning bolts in the snow. Maybe there was some truth to what he said, she thought as she kissed him.
