I'm still the parent

Jul 11, 2008 16:34

As you may or may not know I moved from the US to the UK last year. My mother is nuts, so is my grandmother, so I'm glad to be away from both of them. My mother's really irresponsible and as some of you can relate, I've been the parent, not her.

So a few hours ago I got in from my volunteer gig (at a Buddhist centre there may be one close to you) and I receive a call from my mother. She calls only on Sundays so I thought that someone died, it turns out she needs $300.

This presents several problems:

1. I'm unemployed. I have savings, but I'm still unemployed. I have no income.

2. The money needs to be there by Tuesday morning at the latest. It's Friday afternoon. That means the money won't be sent until Monday.

3. It costs extra money for me not only to send the money, but to send it super fast.

4. If I send it super fast it'll still only get there by Thursday at the earliest.

5. I won't get it back any time soon, if at all.

Now I could just NOT send the money, but that means she'll be evicted and all of my beautiful stuff (diaries, DVDs, posters, essential information) will be thrown away.

She could have told me about this at the end of June and the money would have been sent out ages ago. The rent is due July 3rd, it is currently July 11th.

Is responsibility ever too much to ask? *sigh*
