Oktoberfest Begins (in Germany), so drink up!
National Punch Day, which I'm hoping is the drink and not a "punch-your-friends-for-fun" or a boxing thing.
National Students Day, so teachers, get off your asses and get these damn children learning, you're making the US look bad internationally!
Fox announces a new division... FoxFaith, producing as many as 12 films a year with "hopes to attract evangelical Christians who have traditionally stayed away from current movie fare, regarding it as offensive and irreligious." *deep sigh*
I just wish religion would stay away from cinema, seriously! Or just market direct-to-video... look at The Covenant's naysayers, one of which called it "hokey" because "the men called themselves witches instead of warlocks," calling it "absurd wording." If they'd done their research, they'd know that to many pagans the term 'warlock' is offensive because it stems from the old meaning of 'oath-breaker or traitor' while 'witch' merely stems from an old term for their beliefs. Other witch/warlock's are trying to reclaim/redefine 'warlock' just as others have been trying to reclaim/redefine 'witch' for years. I say more power to them all, and media, let them be already, damn it. The movie did start out at #1 on a slow weekend, which is more than many can say, and is still in the top ten, so naysayers (and assholes) be damned.
Local Idiocy: A Wendy's manager in Brooklyn Park was slightly injured when a customer, after arguing about drive-through prices,
returned minutes later to fire shots into the window. The manager, who is pregnant, was hit in the back by glass or other debris, but merely bruised and didn't need treatment. The suspect was convicted in 2004 of a drive-by shooting in Mpls, but because he had used a BB gun in that incident served less than a year in jail and was on probation.
