Y100 FM was more than a radio station to me. It was a way of life. In my past entries, you have heard my grieve over the loss of the best radio station that philly has ever tuned into. February 24th 2005 was the night we lost it.. and its been 17 months since that day.
I was thinking about it tonight, and Y really is where my musical roots come from. I can remember endless days in the pool canteen working and listening to no other station but y100. Every car trip the radio was on 100.3 and everytime i felt the need to listen i turned it on. My very first show was the sugarcult free show on the river. I have been to ALOT of shows since that one, but ill always remember it. I can remember the very last fezz, 2005. The beastie boys played and i didnt get to go, but i still sat with my friends and listened to the whole show on Y. The next night after the demise, we made shirts and went to a concert in philly. This picture will always hang in my room.
I remember rallying on the art museum stairs, being on every news channel in the area. I remember it all.
Well ladies and gents. Y100 is back, and better than ever. 88.5 XPN decided they should support the y100 cause and give them a radio broadcast wednesdays thursdays and fridays from 8-11 every week! i know its a far cry from being able to listen 24/7.. however they are finally unlimited by fucking corporate radio and can play whatever the hell they feel like.
so of course tonight being wednesday august 30th, yrock was unleashed.. and it was awesome. A band called the spinto band played live, and Jim McGuinn himself did his own broadcast in only the y style everyone loves.
I really thought this was a cool timeline, so i thought id post it in here too.
I feel like we really accomplished something here. Over the course of 17 months we have seen Y evolve and only get stronger with each move. Now theyre finally back on the radio and i know ill listen to them for years to come.
