I have exactly five minutes to talk about this before I have to go out, but it occurs to me that I have been quite wrong about several things DGM-wise in the recent past, so I am going to lay off any speculation until further notice. People, my brain is fried beyond belief. I shouldn't be allowed to speculate. If you see me doing it slap me.
Except now I am about to do it, so let the slapping commence.
So here is the thing about 167.
AHHHHHHHH. AHHHHHHHH. SCREAM.
Most significantly: the fact that Cross ACTUALLY IN ACTUALITY SAID: "He should have picked someone who was worthless." Despite the fact that from an objective standpoint this is a blatant falsehood, because I can't think of a better person than Allen to give this responsibility to, as mean as that may be.
ALLEN IS NOT WORTHLESS. CROSS JUST EXPRESSED, AS MUCH AS HE IS CAPABLE OF COMMUNICATING IT, THE OPINION THAT ALLEN IS AN UPSTANDING AND COMPETENT YOUNG MAN FOR WHOM THERE IS A PLACE IN THE WORLD. Has anyone ever actually said this to Allen in canon, or even implied it this heavily and directly? This is huge! Do you understand. Cross. Said this. About another human being. About Allen. And the thing about Theodore slayed me. I am dead. Dead I tell you. My reproductive bits are going to have to be scraped off the inside of my skull. That was way more than you needed to hear, wasn't it.
However.
I'm really not buying Cross's schtick about "Oh, when did the 14th implant you with his memories? Eh, I dunno. >_> . . . Before he died, I guess?" This seems more than a little suspicious to me.
But that could possibly just be me hoping that all of my Cross theories are not wrong and that he did in fact play a larger role in this after all. I'm not convinced that he didn't.
It has also (finally-remember what I said? Brain fried, I am slow) sunk in for me that the 14th's desire to destroy the Earl was part of his memories. So while this whole situation still sucks for Allen in innumerable ways, it's going to make him the Earl's living nightmare.
But you all already knew that, so I am going to dutifully go out and eat icky Chinese buffet food with my father now.
