The Mountain has again fallen quiet again after another major accident. Paul Radisich has had the throttle jammed open coming over the crest before McPhillamy Park Corner. Radisich glanced the wall at 180kph where Damien White had a big hit last year and sailed straight over the sand trap, impacting a concrete wall, close to perpendicular at well above 100kph. A wall not protected by tyres because its an accessway for recovery trucks almost 30 meters from the circuit.
Radisich has a broken ankle but appears to be otherwise ok. The car is heavily damaged, worse than the frontal damage to the Team Kiwi Racing Falcon, although the Walkinshaw run HSV Dealer Team is considerably better equipped. Rick Kelly will certainly be out of the top ten shootout but repairing the car for the race is a decision yet to be made. Even if they do, Radisich will not be able to take part, although Marcus Zukanovic would likely be the lead driver on standby for the seat having been hired by HSVDT earlier in the year to co-driver the Paul Dumbrell team car only to be replaced by David Reynolds later.
In other news, Mark Noske had a lucky escape after his steering wheel came off in his hands climbing Mountain Straight. He pulled the car up with only the slightest of glances.
Paul Weel has a punctured lung and a ruptured spleen but is otherwise ok and well make a complete recovery.
