Broken Highways
It's times like this that Faith thinks that she'll never find a home again, that she's doomed to endlessly wander the highways while constantly looking over her shoulder. It's merely a matter of time before her past (before Kakistos) catches up with her. Yet she can't stop running.
Later on, there will be a time when Faith will glamourize her "adventures" on the road. However that time is a hundred thousand miles away from now. Now currently sees Faith traversing a lonely and broken stretch of the famous Route 66. She's sticky, hot and tired. Not to mention hungry and bruised from last night. Not all monsters are ones that she can guiltlessly stake in the heart. Last night's monster was a middle aged man who had thought that her tight black jeans and scarlet coloured lips had been an invitation. And maybe they were but she still had the right to say no.
She's pretty sure that the guy was still breathing but she hadn't wanted to take any chances so she'd run after he had collapsed to the ground behind the bar. Just one more thing to come after her. Nothing's quite five by five even if she lies to herself and says that she doesn't care and that everything's fine.
A car finally comes barreling down the dusty and broken highway. It's a chance for her to get nowhere faster and no matter what, Faith's not about to let that chance slip out of her hands. She's a Slayer, she can handle herself and take care of anyone who tries to take advantage of her. Faith pastes on a smile and sticks her thumb out. When the car slows down and stops a few feet from her, Faith saunters over. It's show time and she has a role to play.
"Hey there," Faith says as she leans down.
It's a young man and she can tell that it'll be easy for her to get as far away from here with him. She doesn't think about what could happen to him if Kakistos finds him. Instead she slides into the car and smiles at him. What happens to him when she leaves, isn't really any of her concern.
