Indecisive

Faith shivers as the cool night air hits her skin. Somehow back home in Boston, she had always imagined California to be a warm and pleasant paradise. The reality is that she still lives on the wrong side of the tracks, in a cheap motel that smells of stale cigarette smoke, even staler urine and other unpleasant smells. The nights get really cold in Sunnydale sometimes and she still is on the outside looking in.

It's not that she thought that by coming to Sunnydale that her whole life would be changed. She wasn't silly enough as to be one of the slutty girls from her school who thought that she'd head out west after graduation and suddenly become someone new, someone that everyone desperately wanted to believe. But Faith had thought that the Watcher and Slayer that called Sunnydale home would be just a little more welcoming than they were. As it was Giles was so absorbed in his own problems (and the problems of his Slayer) to really care about Faith and well Faith could recognize jealousy when she saw it.

She takes a drag on the cigarette and wonders if it might just be time to pack it up again and hit the road. Kakistos is dead and as much as she likes Sunnydale, it seems to her that the town's only big enough for one Slayer, even if it does have a Hellmouth and vamps everywhere. Faith's learned in the last few months to not overstay her welcome and she can read the writing on the wall. The only thing keeping her in Sunnydale is the fact that she's barely making ends meet as is it. Giles gives her a few twenties every week and without that pittance, Faith'd be absolutely broke.

And then there is her pride. She's not really in the mood to say goodbye to Sunnydale. She doesn't see why she has to or why she should. So what if Buffy Summers is jealous of Faith. So what if she survived death, it's not as if Buffy's the queen Slayer. From what Faith's been able to piece together, the Council's not too keen on how Giles and Buffy run things. Giles is certainly a lot closer to his Slayer than the Professor ever was with her. It's not that the Professor didn't care, it's just that she had somehow managed to keep her distance, to play by the guidelines in the Slayer Handbook.

Faith can't help but think that when the Council finally sends her Watcher that maybe things might be a lot different than they are now, that maybe Buffy might be finally made to see her place and that maybe Faith might get somewhere than a cheap and dirty little motel room where it's barely warm at nights. It's not that she expects much but it'd be nice to have three meals a day and to not have to worry about where her rent money is going to come from or what she's supposed to without any real guidance other than patrolling because Buffy would rather hang out with her friends.
