Who: Luke [Oldest BGG] and River [Tiger Lily]
Where: River's Place
When: Saturday, March 8th, evening
What: Luke finally screws up the nerve to tell River how he feels about her. Yeah, totally junior high gone terribly wrong. But then, ALL junior high is terribly wrong.
Rating: PG-13, probably?

All the long ride on the subway, Luke tried to inwardly rehearse what he was going to say to her. She was unlikely to respond well to "we'd make gorgeous babies" or "American Indian solidarity." Nor was he going to get far with "you're a bit like my mom."

Though Luke talked a good game, in truth he wasn't convinced he could offer River enough. He wasn't unaware of his deficiencies. He had a job he was good at, and it even had benefits. Down south, that would've counted for more; any woman in Flippin, Arkansas would have perked up and paid close attention to the words "health insurance." But here in New York City, surrounded by what was comparatively a glut of wealth ... well, his construction job didn't seem like enough.

And then there was the incident with Bob. Try as he might to cover it up, it had seriously injured Luke's pride. He was the BIGGEST BILLY GOAT GRUFF; if he couldn't best the Bridge Troll, what use was he? Even the younger goats seemed to be of the opinion that he wasn't doing enough, or that he was somehow betraying them by looking for another route for their protection - or that he wasn't necessary - But hadn't Anser and River both said he should be looking past that, growing out of defining himself by his Tale?

He'd reached his stop. He stood up and shook his head angrily. Damned if I do, damned if I don't, damned if I ignore the whole thing and go out for beer instead, he thought as he strode across the subway platform and up the stairs.

He tried to clear his head as he walked down the street. All he had to do was tell her he ... cared about her, that he wanted something more than a casual connection. It was up to her after that. She wasn't going to ask for a resume; it was yes or no. Tearing himself up about it beforehand was not going to help.

He reached River's door at last and took a deep breath before he knocked
