If the kids hurt the cat, are you going to cut their fingers off too?

Yeah. Didn't think so.

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to own pets.

WOW, is that rude!

Most indoor cats are front declawed. Vets recommend it. If a cat is an indoor cat, there is no need to keep the front claws... It is not cruel, Dolores is a great person, and an animal lover...

Beyond that, I will bite my tongue so as not to stoop the the rude level.

Read a book. And definately don't give me that "most" cats are declawed load of BS. I've got 7+ years experience working in animal rescue. Site your source. Oh, your imagination? Yeah, I thought so. I've been in dozens of shelters - did you know that 70% more declawed cats are euthanized because they are biters (because they no longer have their natural defenses)? Did you know more declawed cats urinate all over the house and refuse to use their litter box, or that more declawed cats develop painful and debilitating joint malformities and arthritis because of the surgery? Do you know how many of these cats are euthanized in shelters over perfectly healthy CLAWED cats because their unnessesary mutilation caused them to have behavioral problems that make them unadoptable ( ... )

I'm sure there's plenty of idiots out there who prefer fat paychecks to giving sane medical advice for the health of your animal ( ... )

I'll say Wow as well. adrienne429 April 15 2007, 04:18:13 UTC
Am I the only one that thinks the previous comment was a bit rude?

Sure, I have mixed feelings about the whole de-clawing thing.
But it is a safe surgical procedure performed by a vet.
It's not like you're getting out the wire cutters to do a bit of home surgery. Gees!

I'm sure everything will be fine, Dolores.

Sorry you think I'm rude, but I don't pull any punches when people are willing to abuse animals in their care "just for the hell of it".

Read up about declaw. If there's one thing to feel strongly about, it's not mutilating animals. And I can't bite my tounge and be polite to anyone who couldn't care less about mutilating a kitten because they are too lazy or uneducated to seek safer, healthier alternatives.

My first response was very polite and informative, and that's when she came back with the "I know it's cruel and inhumane, but I'm gonna do it anyway and I just don't care." - so if she gets to have an "I don't give a shit" attitude about her poor innocent animal, I get to not give a shit if I offend anyone with my opinion. Seems like a fair trade.

Rock on D ... who would have guessed YOU would have stirred up all this controversy! LOL Bottom line is that you gotta do what you gotta do your family. Fuck everyone else.

Remember opinions are like assholes ... everyone has one, and they all stink.

Personally I just wanna meet the little ball of fuzz :) She's cute.

Strength and Honor and much love to ya.

That's my whole point - it's not "fuck me" and my opion, it's fuck the health and wellbeing of that kitten.

How the hell is that fair?

Its fair because people can have different opinions then you do. You don't have to like it .. you just have to grow up and accept it.

You don't get it. It's not an opinion. It's a fact that cutting off an animal's toes is cruel and painful.

Do you just "like" that some people are into kiddie porn? I mean hell, it's just their opinion, and it's just different than yours, right?

I would hope not. I'd hope it would disgust you, and hopefully even anger you. Because some things are just wrong -and worth taking a stand and having strong feelings about.

This is so out of control.

Can we all just agree that we disagree and leave it at that?

Does it always have to come down to this 'flaming' type of comments?

Let's all try to show a little compassion and respect for one another.

I agree its out of control but when someone, in this case theredhairedgrl, can't accept the fact that there are other opinions then her's it pisses me off. I can't stand the holier then thou attitude that so many people have. It's the same kind of bullshit as people who say there ought to be a law against XYZ because it offends them ( ... )

Holy crap peachysakura24 April 15 2007, 07:55:34 UTC
Listen here, red, don't you dare go calling Dolores a bad parent. I have no idea who you are or how you know Dolores, but don't you go around calling people bad parents for declawing a cat, and you certainly don't have a right to call her daughter a scourge, or whatever it was you called her. Ariel and Aurora are beautiful children. If you actually read this post, it said that her landlord told her she had to declaw the cat in order to be able to bring her home ( ... )

"Ariel and Aurora are beautiful children."

I love how you tell *ME* to grow up, and here a grown woman is naming her children after Disney characters. Yes, I'm defending the disfiguration of a living animal for their convenience, and I'm the one who should grow up.

P.S. "beautiful" is clearly a biased opinion in this case.

What's in a name? sweetnsassysueb April 15 2007, 18:50:35 UTC
"What's in a name?
That which we call a rose
By any other word
Would smell as sweet"
~William Shakespear

Ariel = from Ariella Hebrew for "Lion of God; Ethereal"
Aurora = Latin fro "Daybreak, Dawn"
Delores = From the name DOLORES meaning Lady of Sorrows
Michael = Hebrew for "like God"
Susan = A Rose or from the Hebrew for Lily (That's my name Red)
Kris = From the name KRISTEN meaning Christ-bearer

Now... people choose their children's names for many reasons, including meaning, or naming them after someone or just because they like the sound of it.

AGAIN... I guess I must repeat myself YET AGAIN...

Go spend your time joining a political action group that will help further your cause in Animal Rights. Have fun stormin' the castle Red.

SueB :o)
