Pink Martini is wonderful. Even without China Forbes (so sad), they were wonderful. Thomas Lauderdale is adorable. Storm Large is incredible. Ari Shapiro (NPR White House correspondent) sang several songs. (I hadn't realized, but one of my favourite songs from the Splendor in the Grass album was actually written for him.) They did a five-song encore, one of which was a humourous duet version of "Sympathique" by Ari Shapiro and Storm Large.
And they had Saori Yuki as a surprise guest for her U.S. debut! I literally squeed aloud and started bouncing in my seat when they announced her. She is AMAZING. She has the most incredible voice - pure, with stunning range and versatility. She sang everything from Japanese ballads to "White Christmas" to "Puff, the Magic Dragon"....
I totally bought CDs and a tee-shirt and, for once, actually stood in line for autographs.
The whole experience was utterly delightful; I hope I get to see them again. If you ever get a chance, I highly, highly recommend them.
