On Friday morning Mum and Dad came over and we went to Poppleton Railway nursery, which was quite interesting. It was the nursery which provided all the plants and flowers for the LNER's hotels and stations, which has recently been re-opened as a charitable community nursery and oddly I knew more about then Dad. It didn't take long to get round, but its nice to see it being saved. They have a original narrow gauge railway they are currently repairing and extending too.
On Friday afternoon Alex and I went to see Claire, she has a lovely big house down an obscure back road over looking Heworth Green that I would love, but it set me to thinking about aspirations, and instant gratification and how I am happier having no mortgage on a smaller house! I don't think I have a dream anything, kitchen, bathroom, sofa, wedding whatever. I'm just not that materialistic!
Simon was supposed to be taking me out for dinner, but he got back late, so it was fish and chips at home before heading to the station.
The weekend was OK, Janet and Eric turned up with friends, spent some time with us before getting on the train and re-appeared briefly in the afternoon, which is how I like my inlaw visits! Mum, Dad, Lib and I picked the cherry plums from all the trees around the garden and I made plum jelly with my 6lbs.
On Saturday night we went to Ken's (railway finance manager) retirement do. We were a little late by the time I'd fed Alex and laced up my boots and corset, but I looked good! Now I'm getting enough sleep I've lost a little weight and it shows!
On Sunday Lib and I went to the continental market in Pickering, which was fairly crap compared to last year. There were only about 6 stalls, but I still managed to spend £60. Oops.
I finished the jelly and it hasn't bloody set, so I'll have to remake it. Bum.
Today was going OK, as lots of deliveries have come in, but after Simon came home things went downhill. We had a nice dinner of ostrich cassoulet, but then Alex started yelling, there was no hot water for his bath and Simon has buggered off out without talking to me. Joy. We all had a bad night, which won't help, so I'm hoping for a good nights sleep tonight.
