people and pets all go to the doctor

ok, first of all...
the cats are fine, if spooked. the dog ( bella_cash) is fine, if spooked.  *I* am not fine. i will be though....

while i was watching, Bella went up to her own food bowl to eat.. and the cat that hates me, Frosty? who also HATES the new dog (but loved Max and shared food with him) decided that this.. this.. INTERLOPER  shall not eat out of MAX's food bowl.
and attacked Bella.

no joke, the cat flew at her face and got her one square in the snoot.
Bella quite reasonably yelped and tried to respond and i had to jump in to break it up since the two are NOT in the same weight class.

i knew trying to break up a cat/dog argument was a bad idea. i knew frosty hated me anyway, and had NO hesitation about clawing me, or even biting if he felt like it ... but i had not fully anticipated trying to grab a cat, and hold the cat out of reach of the upset dog (who wasnt going after Frosty with much real aggression or he (frosty) would have been hurt).
OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

i THINK it was all claw wounds, but one or two places might have been bites. a wound on my leg MAY have been an incidental Bella tooth mark as i shoved my leg in between them, or may have been kitty back claws, no way for me to know.

what i do know is that MOST of it was certainly cat claws.

and there isnt really an area below the neck that didnt get nailed.
two spots on my hand especially bad because 1. they are punctures, not slashes and 2 they went right into veins.

last time i even got a minor puncture from a cat i got cellulitis, so after getting the dog calmed down
(GOOD girl) and making sure both of the animals were in fact DANDY ....
(both fine, but all the cats got kind of freaked out)

so, dog fine, cat fine if somewhat upset, human wounded...
i called the doctor and got an emergency "can you see me RIGHT NOW to get antibiotics"?

and then i had a thought.... and called the doctor back... and after explaining that Bella was NOT trained YET.. but i was having her trained to be my service dog, could i bring her with me? got told "yes"

so Bella went with me to the doctors office....
where she very nicely lay down bored as all get out while people went "oooooh! what kind of dog is that???"

she did insist on sniffing the doctor when we got seen.. i dont think the doctor was too thrilled with the huge floor rug/dog, but she behaved.
he seemed to think that since she didnt pick up her head at her name she didnt know what it was.. i think she just doesnt CARE.

anyway. so she got to practice being a service dog and that was a top flight performance. only thing that needed work was teaching her to lie down closer to my chair so people dont have to walk around her so much...

i always forget that it never is the "basic office fee" its always something else too.. in this case fecal test and bordatella vaccine (they fire that up her nose, she was unhappy about it and looked SAD and then turned her back and refused to talk to me for MINUTES)

Dr. Meister saw her, he is the dental specialist and is also well versed in service dogs and their duties. he thought she was MARVELOUS.

he said that on examination her hips felt and looked great, but of course for long run service dog work they would need X rays to be sure.
her teeth are good, she is sound and solid, heart and lungs clear and he praised her temperament for the job!
(can i pick dogs or what?)

now the odd part. while he acknowledged that she might feel a bit thin, he said "no more than ten more pounds, preferably not even 1 more pound on her" when i looked startled, he said she was a little thin, but with the big dogs the strain on their joints is terrible. she wasnt "unhealthy" thin, just slim, (now, as opposed to when the SPCA seized her)and that was good for her hips and joints.... and for her heat tolerance.
so we will stop trying to put weight on her and just make sure she gets good food.

so in summary the dog has the service dog knowledgeable vets seal of approval.....

and i hurt everywhere and will be on anti biotics, because of that idiot cat. sigh Frosty hates me and loves wayne. guess who it was that insited on taking him in off the street? (yes, me)

service dog, ow, injuries, service dog training, vet bills, cats, antibiotics, hurt, dogs, doctor, veterinarians
