I will be keeping a close eye on this. Considering that the only thing that was identified when Gosling#2 was so critically sick was strep, if I can get him vaccinated, I'm right there. And that is thew only thing he seems susceptible to - he's always getting strep. Now I will panic whenever he comes down with it.
dont panic. but DO start a policy of taking him to the doctors at the very first symptoms, and alert the doctor "my child is very susceptible to strep"
my mom did that, so even when i was out of town and in "new doctor territory" mom would take me to a doctor and the first words were "test for strep, she gets it all the time"
Himself is very good about going to the doctor. This last instance totally surprised us - not throat pain at all earlier in the day, then 'poof' 103 fever and run to hospital. He knows about his tendency and usually stays on top of it.
My mom always made them test me for strep, as well. I had good health and dental care as a child, since my mom was on Welfare. They made it a priority that I had glasses when I needed them.
*wish I could say that now* Last Christmas was a wake-up call for me. I know that I need to take better care of myself, yet I continue to downplay my health problems. I think a lot of parents do that, you know? I try to nurse everyone else back to health, but I cannot "allow" myself to get sick or let others take care of me when I eventually get sick.
first rule of EMS: you cant help anyone else if you fall over.
you HAVE to take care of yourself, or there wont be anyone to care for those other folks. yes, its tough... caregivers often burn themselves out trying to be all things to everyone... and neglecting themselves.
