Ema + Aang luminol_lover December 23 2009, 19:40:37 UTC
While sitting on the couch, Ema had a pink package on her lap. She hadn't been able to find any blue wrapping paper, but she hoped this would be a suitable color for him. Taking a sigh, she took in the festive atmosphere, remembering how lovely and fun it had been the previous year...

And certain memories began to surface.

Aang had never actually spoken to Ema, but from seeing her around the train in passing, he knew that she was a girl in her teens-- and teenage girls liked jewelry, right? However, he hadn't really been able to find anything suitable in the convenience cart, so he'd had to improvise.

Finally spotting her in the lounge, Aang crossed the room, a messily-wrapped gift box in his hands. "Hi! I'm Aang, your partner for the gift exchange."

His voice snapped her back to reality and she gave him a cheerful smile. "Aang, hello! I'm Ema, but you probably already assumed that." She handed him the box, which was a bit large, to boot. "I hope you enjoy what I got you! I received something similar as a child and I always derived much joy from playing with it."

Little did he know, he was about to receive a science kit for kids she had purchased from the Convenience Cart recently.

Wow, that was a big box. Suddenly the handmade necklace he had for her seemed pale in comparison. After all, it was really just a bit of string strung with anything he could find that seemed cool-looking-- bottle caps; little stones; even a piece of colored glass. What if she was disappointed?

Feeling just a little nervous, Aang handed over his small package. "It's... not very big. And I had to make it myself."

Opening the box quickly, she stared down at the quaint necklace. Her expression became sad as she remembered how Dr. Horrible had given her something similar the year before. "Oh..." Ema looked to the side a bit, unaware of whether or not this would upset the boy.

Aang's expression fell; she didn't like it! She probably thought it was stupid and lazy, even though he had worked hard to find things that had holes (or could have holes put in them) to string on the necklace.

"... I'm sorry it's not better."

"No! It's a nice present!" She tried to put on a smile for him, but failed. "I really like it! I promise!" Then she put it around her neck, to show that she had appreciated it.

Rose couldn't sit still. After all, she loved getting presents, and as for giving them? She knew she had the best gift ever. She stood by the window in the crowded lounge, hopping back and forth from foot to foot-- but being careful not to crinkle the drawing she'd made. It was unwrapped (after all, it was hard to wrap paper in... more paper), so she took care to keep it face down. No one, least of all Cisqua, was allowed to see it until she decided to show them.

Cisqua strolled through with a pleasant expression, wondering how the exchange would turn out this year. Her partner this time around was much different than Ougi from last year, so naturally she expected that Rose's idea of a gift would differ as well.

She didn't appear to be carrying anything, but perhaps she had something hidden away for Rose in her uniform, as she always seemed to have plenty of room there to hide other things.

Rose looked around carefully, examining each face. She didn't know Cisqua; she wouldn't recognize her by her face. Her best bet would be to look for strangers and go from there.

Seeing the redheaded girl wandering around by herself, Rose approached her, still holding her drawing carefully against herself. "Hello."

"Why, hello!" She replied cheerfully when the girl approached. "Your name is Rose, am I right?" While they had never spent much time together, Cisqua did understand that her partner for the exchange was a child. Of course, she kept this in mind when considering a gift.

"Permanent Rose." No one here actually used her full name, but she wanted people to know it, at least. "I have a present for you!"

Cisqua smiled brightly. "Alright, Permanent Rose." Sticking a quick hand into her coat, she took out a wrapped package. "As it turns out, I have something to give you in return!" The wrapping paper itself was nothing too grand, as she didn't see the need to spend money on something that was going to be ripped up anyway, but there was actually a pair of items to be found inside. One was a wooden box of crayons and the other an appropriately themed coloring book.

With a big grin on her face, Rose handed over her gift, too. It was a detailed drawing of the Valkyrie Express stopped in front of a yellow house (with a smaller little shed off to the side). In the train windows, she had drawn every passenger (past and present) that she knew the name of-- Ed, Asuka, Buguese, Rán, Rukia (her former roommate), and more. In the window of the shed was a woman, in the windows of the house were three girls and two boys, and on the roof was another boy, holding a guitar. It was actually pretty good for a just-turned nine-year-old, and it was clear that she had spent a lot of time on it.

She didn't consider it her best (after all it had been done with crayon rather than pastels or paint, and it was on paper rather than the wall), but she was proud of it all the same.

Walking into the lounge was a very stylish Asuka, garbed in a Christmas themed outfit. This year, she was in a much more festive mood.

She knew her gift exchange partner alright, back from when they visited that boarding school. And even though she thought of him as an annoying know-it-all, she decided to give him something decent (in her eyes). In her hands, she held two thermoses with a funny looking animal on them. That should please him, right?
