Okay, I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong, but oh well, my Japanese sucks. Anyways, I saw this community on the LJ home page and thought I'd check it out. I've been in Japan for about 8 months now, stationed on the USS Chancellorsville out of Yokosuka, and I love this country. It's kind of unfortunate that I'm leaving for San Diego this month, but I'm still looking forward to that also. I havn't seen as much here as I would like, though I did get to climb Mt. Fuji and checked out Tokyo, Akihabara, and Roppongi. Even when to Mouron (bleh) and Sapporo up in Hokkaido for the Ice Festival. And, oh, I will NEVER moore a ship pierside in that kind of weather again. Brrrr! I guess of all the places I've been in Japan, I enjoy Enoshima the most. It's quite, on the beach, has a large fishing community, and there's surf and skate shops everywhere. The biggest plus though is that noone from our base ever goes there, so Americans still have a decent rep there.
But, since people are posting on things they miss in the states...
1. Biscuits and Gravy (yeah, I'm southern)
2. My car. As convenient as public transportation is, I enjoy my American muscle.
3. English.
4. $1.00 beers, $2.00 shots, $3.00 pitchers. Alchohol is way more expensive here.
5. Guacamole. We'll add real Mexican food to that. I love me some Mex.
6. Space. There's not a whole lot of it on the east-side.
7. What I would consider "normal" street traffic. (Stateside, if anyone passes me on a moped at a red light, i'm opening my door on their ass...)
8. Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuits
9. Trucks. Not rangers or s-10s, and not big rigs either. Real trucks. Z71s and F-250s and RAMs and such.
10. But of all the things, I miss my family the most. My nieces and nephew most of all.
Anyways, I'm going to miss this place. I never even got to go to Kyoto! ahh!
