This shit is not actually bananas, if you were wondering. Tomorrow I'm making brisket at some friends' house. It should be excellent. I am actually pleased that it took a turn for the cold here, because now it is totally brisket weather. However, I'm a little stuck on what to make to go with it. I'm thinking of making roasted potatoes like I usually do, because they are delicious and cheap. For dessert, I'm thinking
this, because it looks delicious and fairly easy and I've never made pudding before. My friend Kate is making a salad, but especially since there's probably not going to be much brisket per person (9 people for a ~7 person recipe) I was thinking of some kind of legume or vegetable (or both) side dish. If you are familiar with my eating preferences, it does not have to meet them although if it does that would be nice. Some characteristics I'm looking for: tasty, easy, cheap and fairly quick. The brisket is pretty much beef, onions (dear lord so many onions), carrots and tomato paste, so something that goes with that but not like, an onion tart or something, because we are set on the onions front. Should nothing come up, I'll probably throw together something with tomato and garbanzo beans, if only because I know those things live in this house. (Oh shit,
inkstain, remember the time we made this with sweet potato fries? Maybe I should make sweet potato fries instead of roast potatoes. Or a little of both? I'll see what happens.)
Also, I've got all the parts of a meal there, right? Salad, 2 side dishes, main course, dessert. Their house is perpetually full of bread and cheese, so I think we're set there.
