I haven't been sleeping well lately, and I think it sort of caught up to me yesterday. I felt tired the whole day, even though I didn't even do anything. And I think I ended up crashing out some time between 6 and 7 in the evening.
Only to wake up at around 1 in the morning while I was in the middle of a dream (nightmare?) where two guys were stealing my car. Basically, I had climbed in through the back door, which is funny because my two-door doesn't even HAVE back doors (see pictures in previous post). Suddenly, these two guys pop up from the bottom seat cushions and ... that's when I woke up. And the best part was, in spite of those 6-7 hours of sleep, I STILL felt like crap.
So, even though I was feeling all woozy and stuff, I decided to take my car for a drive because there was this dumbshit in a Cadillac parked in our parking lot who kept revving his engine, over and over (and maybe because I was spooked by my dream/nightmare?). So I ended up getting back at around 3 in the morning or so?
By this time, I only had two hours before I usually got up anyways, so I ended up just surfing the web until it was time to take a shower.
The funny thing about all this is that, while riding the bus in to work this morning, I was thinking "what if my car DID get stolen?" First of all, I would be friggin' mad, 'cuz that car is the best one I've ever driven. Now, I can't say it's the best one I've ever ridden in. (That would be the racing Porsche Dave Laing brought home from work one day.) But I've enjoyed just about every damn minute I've spent in that car. I would also be sad because the car would be much better off in the hands of someone like
racerex rather than some stupid car thief.
That said, losing the car would also be pretty beneficial money-wise. It would mean no more car insurance ass-rapeage (over twice what I was paying in Chicago or Detroit). It would mean no more weekly $30 fill-ups on gas. (Though, with the mass transit-ing I've been doing lately, that figure has gone way down.) It would mean no more worrying about the next repair bill for routine maintenance (which actually hasn't been bad considering I've got over 120k miles on the odometer). Basically, I'm saying it would be a major improvement in my life cashflow-wise.
Sure, it would mean no more spur-of-the-moment trips to Costco, Brap Buy, CrampUSA, Whole Foods, etc. but public transit in Jersey covers some of those holes. Hmmm. Actually, it would also mean I'd have to rent something if I wanted to get stuff at Ikea. Or borrow someone's wagon. Damn.
It was actually starting to piss me off a little that car theft seems like it's starting to be treated as a fact of life. What with the high insurance rates to cover for the fact that recovery rates are so low and, even though I seem to see cops EVERYWHERE I GO in this friggin' state, too often they're parked at the side of the road jawing away at a fellow cop, or there are a bunch of cop cars parked at a gas station/convenience mart. No doubt getting donuts to go with their coffee.
bleah I didn't mean to turn this into a rant, but it looks like it happened anyhow. I guess I'll stop before I start sounding like a raving lunatic. (Or maybe it's already too late for that?)
