It's been quite a year. My first full year married to Amy. And in June, she gave birth to our wonderful daughter Maria.

Amy, you are my love and inspiration. I can't wait to start the next year with you, and God willing, have many, many more.

One of the fun things about Northwest Arkansas as opposed to where I grew up in the Midwest is that winters tend to be shorter and much less severe. I started this blog back in 2003. A few of you who read this may recall I used to update this journal regularly (posting my tweets doesn't count). Every now and then I go over my old posts and think it's strange to see what I've written. A couple of things I've observed in the week or so since Maria Grace was born:

• Women have superpowers. Childbirth is no joke.
• There's no paranoia quite like having a newborn and wondering every moment whether she'll be okay from one second to the next.
• Babies have no sense of regular time.

Hanging out in Smackover, Arkansas, visiting Grandma, for whom Amy got her middle name (Marie).

I've been married for about a month and a half now, and I think the transition has been mostly smooth. I will say one of the added benefits of it has that I'm on a more regular and healthy schedule (i.e. I I'm getting to bed earlier.) I don't end up ( Read more... )

Today was a good day, me and Amy ran some errands, and had lunch with her parents at the Spring Street Grill. We also bought a table, and I took a moment to set it up in her (soon to both of ours) apartment. I saw the opera Carmen at Opera of the Ozarks (kudos to them for snagging the opera.org domain name) Saturday, and it was an enjoyable experience, having never been to an opera before.  Good performances by the college group that performs the opera on opening night.  I'll also say that the setting for the outdoor covered opera stage with a backdrop ( Read more... )

So my laptop finally puttered out and died today. I might have it more formally looked at but the hard drive appears to have crashed and now it doesn't even show Bios.

I'm really not in the mood to shop for a new one, but until I do it's just my iPhone and public computers or no computers at all.
