One of the fun things about Northwest Arkansas as opposed to where I grew up in the Midwest is that winters tend to be shorter and much less severe. A couple of things I've observed in the week or so since Maria Grace was born:

• Women have superpowers. Childbirth is no joke.
• There's no paranoia quite like having a newborn and wondering every moment whether she'll be okay from one second to the next.
• Babies have no sense of regular time.
