ERNEST HEMINGWAY SPECIAL
El Especial de Ernest Hemingway
Antonio Meilan, the bartender at the famous Floridita Restaurante in Havana, served this drink on many occasion to Papa Hemingway. Antonio made it for me the exact way he prepared it for the writer. If you have trouble finding maraschino liqueur, substitute cherry-flavored brandy. The resulting drink will be more tart but just as refreshing.
Serves 1.
2 ounces light or white dry rum
1 teaspoon grapefruit juice
1 teaspoon maraschino liqueur
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
2 cups shaved ice
Sprig of mint, for garnish
Place all ingredients except garnish in the container of a blender. Blend until frothy. Pour into a large chilled cocktail glass and garnish with mint.
