My 25th Birthday Weekend Celebration!

Nov 17, 2008 00:42

As of 11:32 pm, I am officially 25 years old. Oh wow, 25... 25! In fandom years, I'm like in my 40-50s, LOL. But wow, I'm halfway through my twenties.

And for some odd reason, it extended in a celebration fitting for a milestone birthday like 16, 18 or 21, but it just happened most likely my birthday landed on a Sunday. Maybe. Okay, it was like more of a three night celebration, but gawd, I was bushed come Sunday though. I'm out of practice with that kind of stuff. So young....

But I had FUN. Being stuck in the house for little over a month, this was a blast. I will break down the timeline as best as I can.

Friday, November 14

Okay, I wasn't planning to do much on this day except meet up with some friends at Kinokuniya and eat the shortcake there while giving me gifts and go to pick up my doujinshi anthology in another Japanese bookstore. So I cleaned my room and did some chores before going to the hair salon for Saturday.

Things just snowballed from there and people were late (ironically, me being the one who usually the late one came early because of the salon). I got a call from another friend from Dave and Buster's to meet up there. I met a couple of my friends at Kinokuniya and spent like 30 minutes looking for a gift. I was mulling over a okama (the character designer of Glass Fleet, Diebuster, and Kannagi and the mangaka of Cloth Road) artbook, but I had to remember that we needed to head over to get my books at the other bookstore and hopefully find some good artbooks there. We went and it didn't. It was unusually sparse on the artbooks over there. So after ANOTHER 30 minutes, we ended getting the anthologies. This is why they're getting extra special Christmas gifts this year: One gave me a 50 dollar gift certificate from the store and the other, God Bless her heart, give another $35 dollars despite her dislike for anything BL or yuri. The original prince was 116 dollars so I only had pay  the rest and taxes. This is why I want them for my friends for the rest of my life, and not for the BL.

Then we went to Dave and Buster's and my other friend and a friend of hers were already started enjoying Happy Hour. Me and my other friends managed to make it time to order one drink before it was too late to take advantage of the 1/2 off special. I had a Sno Cone (which was a mixture of DeKuyper Watermelon Pucker, Malibu rum, Three Olives Cherry vodka, blue curacao, Sprite and pomegranate syrup over shaved ice). It's extremely delicious when you mixed the blue and red together and it becomes purple. During our drinks, my friend that met there gave me a small gift... it was a pack of cards featuring very, very naked men. Did I meaning it's geared at gay men too? It was the most hilarious gift I ever gotten in my life so far. We had a hoot "rating" the men, I don't think we actually got a guy over a 7. LOL. When we ordered food, we decided to hit the movies afterwards.

Dammit, Hollywood, fucking fail less on my birthday weekend next year, kthxbai. The only worthwhile movie I wanted to see was Zack and Miri Make a Porno since I love Kevin Smith's movies and a bit of a fan of Seth Rogan since Knocked Up but two of my friends already saw it. Seriously, the only movies that wasn't such fail this weekend were Role Models and Soul Men (the latter we found out we couldn't go see because one of my friends had a 11:30 PM curfew). So we ordered some food (I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak with yummy mushrooms... which I only can eat half the sandwich. Just the sandwich, fuck the fries. My friends ate that.). So we talked, joked and the like. After we finished my "God Bless her heart" friend ordered a chocolate fondue and I relearned a bitter lesson why I don't stuff myself anyone. When we were trying to get our waiter, the lights in the restaurant went out. At first, we were hoping the city didn't went out because we would've been fucked over since none of us lived in Manhattan. It was just that the restaurant used too much power for the arcade. We managed to get our bill and luckily everyone had cash on them because we were late for the movie already. So we rushed out.

Now...

Who in the fuck went to see Role Models that it was sold out?

So we were assed out a movie. The we wondered in Duane Reade and talked as one of my friends looked for some facial wash. I had to say goodbye to two of my friends (the ones I met in Kinokuniya) and my friend's friend because strangely, it wasn't anything to do in Times Square on a Friday night. So me and my other friend stayed.

And look for a male stripper club...

This was an adventure in itself. We went to a lot of places, AV shops too see if they know any places (and had another little adventure in there that I will not type out here) , and restuarants and tourist traps for internet access.

Did you know male strip clubs tend to close early on Friday? What.

So we spent an hour in Grand Terminal Station, just chilling and talking and reflecting on our small adventure (she considered it an hour of frustration, I considered it a adventure and a working analysis about the dearth of male strip clubs in NYC). I finally convinced her to go home (mostly because I really wanted to read my anthologies and doujins that came that day). She realized she should've listened to me because she got in a bet with my other friend (the one who gave me a $50 gift certificate) that she can't make jabs at me for a week. She went in not-serious panic mode because she was stuck with me after midnight. Good times, good times. I spared her the pain by taking the short way home because I wanted to read my anthologies.

And yeah, I think I can sell my copy of Kondor's Agemashouka now. Although she changed an entire scene from the doujinshi single I had. LOL. I only read two, half-read another two and didn't touch four because of Sunday, a day I'm forbidden to read porn. So gonna read them tonight.

Saturday, November 15

Woke up late trying to recover from the fun last night, mostly I didn't want to be sleepy for the Equus play. I rested until around 4:00 PM trying to get ready because me and the friend (the one who can't make jabs at me) and her BFF wanted to meet a couple of hours early to eat. I had to call her to change some plans. We were supposed to go to Olive Garden, but since we went to Dave and Buster's last night and me being a cheap fuck, I suggested to go to Sapporo instead. Sapporo, which is on 49th Street and Broadway, has the tastiest homemade Curry Ramen I ever tasted. I had their Shoyu Ramen, Miso Ramen, and Curry Rice, but all that pales compared to that Curry Ramen. They serve donburi and the such but the Japanese restaurant in Rockefeller Center's Concourse is cheaper and better.

So we eat and drink (and I almost got my outfit ruined due to a waitress spilling some miso soup all over the table) and left.

Now, I knew it was going to rain, but I thought it would be light and wore some nice shoes since my friend insisted that I dress up for the play (which I found out half the people weren't even bothering with dressing up later on. Next time, jeans, baby)...

Ugh, when it rained, it basically poured. So went to Tonic to catch a quick drink before heading for the play. I got a Mango Margarita, my friend got a Red Headed Slut (I shit you not, this is the name of the drink), her BFF got a Blow Job. So you can imagine the puerile humor that ensued.

Now, I'm not a drinker since it fucks your liver, but I'm not opposed to a drink every now and then. Hell, I didn't get my first real drink until months after I was 21, although there was this funny story with the funny Minute Maid when I was like 13 and I got tipsy... whatever. When I drink something, I tend to get sleepy afterwards, my body trying to get the alcohol out of my system.

Yeah, bad idea.

So the play Equus? It was alright. Not worth the $124 bucks I spent on it. They seriously should install speakers in the back for people who have reduced hearing like me. So I had to make an echo effect with my ears to hear them... not that the first half made any sense anyway. It was an acid trip gone wrong. But my favorite parts were when the main character, played by Daniel Radicliffe of Harry Potter fame, interacted with the "horses". Let's say my inner fujoshi squealed in delight and the scene when Daniel Radicliffe gets naked. His "wand" looked small from where I was, but the boy got a fine ass... Okay, that sounded like it was the reason I went to this play. LOL, I'm not going to say it wasn't a reason, but not the reason. In the first half of the play, the margarita detox kicked in and the weather was FUCKING COLD. Needless to say, I nodded off half-way through the first half. My friend was kinda pissed at me for that. LOL. But I stayed up for the second half straight. To be honest, we didn't get the play entirely until my little sister, forever the little literature scholar and read the play, explained the themes of the play to me, which we ALL got wrong. But if had to rate the play, I would give it an average rating especially when it made me LOL'd internally at parts I know I'm not supposed to laugh at and it came across a comedy more than a mystery. But at least, I'm interested in reading the play now.

After the play, they had an auction to raise money for the charity, which was pretty hilarious. My friend got caught taking a pic of it by security.

Next stop was drinking out in the Village, but the bar that my friend loved was packed full of New York University students, and her BFF had to leave within the hour, so we went to this Belgium fries place. The fries are yummy, not the best but it's still pretty good with the blue cheese on them. Yum.

Then we went to 34th Street to drop her friend off at Penn Station. I got my money back from the tickets and me and my friend went home, acting silly the rest of the day. I took the long ride home to torture her because she couldn't torture me back and playing devil's advocate to make her give up on the bet (which I knew it wouldn't work since she's pretty prideful). I learned I can be a bit of a vindictive bitch with stuff like that. LOL. I love her anyway. It was a upbeat way to start the actual day.

Came home at 2 AM and got a very early Happy Birthday grerting from my mother and I surfed on the net until I passed out a hour later. Like, I said earlier, I'm out of practice with stuff like that.

Sunday, November 16

I had trouble trying with getting up early since I was bushed from being out and about until late night for the past two days. I managed to finally wake up at 11AM. Hey, it's earlier than I usually get up from Sunday! I basically slouched around the whole day (and got a call from my little sister in England) and it was pretty peaceful. It felt nice curl up in the covers and feeling the cool Late Fall air with the sun beaming down on you while surfing on the web on your laptop.

I had a small, quiet party with family. My grandmother tricked me not thinking we weren't having salmon for my birthday dinner but we did with baked potatoes. It was delicious~!

Of course, each year, they remember all the stories when I was a little shit. LOL. We were also watching some good ol' Bridezillas too. Since my mother and aunt give me gifts early in the forms of new outfits. My grandmother gave me money. Yay! $240 for Christmas so far. Need $400 to seal the deal. Surprisingly, my grandfather called and told me he'll give me a gift for my birthday. I'm not really close to him at all, but it was a sweet gesture even if he doesn't give anything in the end.

So, by the time I finished this entry, it will be November 17th, meaning the celebration is over. I had the best birthday in years and hopefully many more to come. And I wonder what my crazy ass sister got me. She gave my mother two HUEG bags of Big Blows, her favorite candy. I can only assume she did something equally as crazy for me.

My birthday "cake". A delicious New York Cheesecake pie from Junior's (I have raved about the store in a previous entry, this is their trademark pie). It's no Baskin Robbins' cake but is no less delicious~~! I haven't eaten this since January, surprisingly. You can kinda
see my grandmother's lap in this pic. LOL.
Now I can think about Christmas now. I got seven people to buy stuff for. orz. I think I doubt I will kept under $400 limit since one friend I have to bundle her b-day gift with her Christmas present.

Oh, and I want in on that Christmas meme thing!

★Step One:
• Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 unlimited 8D holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

• If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

• Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

★Step Two:

• Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

• If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

• You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

• There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

★ A Reborn 8018 only and/or 10051 only anthology. Come on, Japan. It's long overdue, dammit. Or an opportunity to the event anthology to these pairing, dammit.
★ A PSP... somehow... dammit, I doubt my mother would get it for me. But I don't want anything else really.
★ My doujinshi sale to go well so I can buy more doujinshi and continue the vicious circle.
★ Lots of Hetalia doujinshi to come out in Japan in Winter Comiket and someone to sell them too so I can start on my Hetalia doujinshi collection.
★ More 10051 fanfiction in the Reborn comm, more Hetalia fanfiction period in the Hetalia comm.
★ A well paying job.
★ A download of AciD Flavor's album, Next Story's songs "Next Story" and "Evolve". The full tracks, not the short edit one.
★ To win Oprah's contest. LOL, yes, I'm a fucking dork with a old lady's soul.
★ For Obama to be a good president (I know, crappy wish to wish for, but I want Obama to grant this)
★ For everyone to have a fuckawesome successful holdiays!

OTL shitty wishes are shitty. LOL
