Summary: The last thing Alex wanted was to deal with Christian, particularly while she had important duties at The Hub to take care of.

A/N: Wrote this before anything concrete had been decided about the universe. This helped me to shape how things were going to feel, and to just play around with a few random ideas.

Alex tried not to yawn again, and instead picked up her third cup of coffee in the last half an hour. She had slept like shit last night, but, of course, that didn't matter much when it came to making sure she was up and functional. She'd had to ensure that breakfast was made properly and set out, that wake-up calls had been dialed, and, now, that people who wanted to attend events got the proper brochures and directions, and those checking out were able to do so.

No fuss no muss, that was Alex's motto. Or, at least, it would be, if she had a motto.

And since they were typically frequented by non-humans, there was rarely any reason for glamours or concerns. Sure, Alex was technically half-human, but that didn't really count for anything when it came to her knowledge of who and what was out there. Or, at least, it hadn't counted for anything once she'd come to stay and work with her sister, who had opened her eyes to the bullshit her parents - and a lot of the more conservative Fey, who thought others were beneath them - that she grew up with had taught her.

She was kindly checking out Mrs and Mrs Dunham, both unicorns who couldn't stop gushing about their lovely room and the delightful berry jam - the cook had handmade it, and she knew that he'd be delighted to hear about it, he loved compliments on his cooking, even if it DID help his ego to grow almost too large for their kitchen-space - and how great the forests near-by had been for their evening stroll, when there was a knock on the door.

Odd. It was a Bed and Breakfast. You pretty much couldn't get a larger invitation to walk in if they'd handed out individual ones. She excused herself from the Dunhams and peered out the door. It was a quick flash of grey in her peripheral, and then she looked down on the mat in front of the door and saw a letter. It bore the official seal of the local Vampire Clan.

Turning behind her, she shrugged, and laughed. “Kids,” she joked, tucking the letter into the back waistband of her pants. She checked the Dunhams out, and then excused herself to head to the bathroom. Not that any of the people in the living room noticed, since there was only one other couple, and they were loudly debating which sights to see for the day. - city - was a hotspot of great paranormal sites, events, and specialized locations, after all.

Fingers shaking, she broke the seal on the envelope in the bathroom, peering out the window to make sure whoever had delivered it - probably a ghoul, though they didn't like to wander this far during the day, so maybe it was a thrall - wasn't still spying, waiting around for an answer.

When she didn't see anybody, she let herself yank out the paper and read it. Christian, the head vampire of the area, was requesting her presence that night. It said he had an important request to make of her.

She exhaled slowly, trying not to let her fingers shake. Great. Christian. Just who she wanted to run into.

She could say no, claim she was busy. The Fey consulate might even back her up. Yeah, right. Not up here, they wouldn't. Not for the first time, Alex wished her sister and sister-in-law hadn't taken off for their vacation. Then she could've dumped this all on them.

Or at least had someone to talk to about it. Instead, she sighed, and resolved herself to sneaking out that night to meet the vampire who had made her existence here a serious, and at times nightmarish, pain in the ass. With any luck she'd be back before morning.

And if not, well, at least her sister knew her burial wishes.
