Title: And Trudy's Watching Right Back
Rating: Teen
Warnings: None Applicable
Word Count: 392
Summary: Somebody has to watch the newbie Fae, and Trudy knows that she's just the person for the job.

A/N: Takes place directly after " Ellie's Watching You." Wrote this before anything concrete had been decided about the universe. This helped me to shape how things were going to feel, and to just play around with a few random ideas.

Gertrude smiled from where she was curled up on the rooftop near Alex's room. Sure, she couldn't go in - wouldn't want to go in. And sure, Alex's cat was tempting her very hard into a stare-down. It was hard not to give in, just as a matter of pride.

But no. Trudy smiled, her teeth sharp as ever, and inhaled the scent from Alex's room. Creepy? Yeah. Stalkerly? Sure. But it was one of the only ways to ensure that the rest of her Pack didn't take her place when it came to investigating the new, on-probation Fae.

And considering what the rest of her Pack - bless them, she really did love them - considered watching, well, Trudy was the best person for the job. Not that she necessarily wanted to keep the new Fae alive, per se. Or even that she was okay with her entering their territory without even the most perfunctory of nods to their Alpha.

It would've been fine if she had been just passing through, like most of The Hub's guests, or even if she were in town on very specific business, and had sent a brief to the local leaders so they would know. But nope, Alex just popped in out of nowhere, to stay indefinitely.

And beyond that, she started working at The Hub, even going so far as to take night shifts when needed, and to try to patrol and clear the grounds. As if the local nymphs didn't take care of the land just fine.

Still, there was something about Alex, and the way she sincerely seemed unaware of what she'd done wrong, of the way that she awkwardly but earnestly engaged with many of the boarders at The Hub, and the idea that she had something very intense, very dark, and very dangerous living inside her (she'd have to, in order for her to be on probation like that), all drew Trudy to her.

And so she sat on the roof, ostensibly not being too huge of a Twilight-style creeper, to keep an eye on her for the Pack, at least until they were positive she was safe. And if Trudy also kept an eye out for others who might have it in for the newb, well, it would be a pain if someone killed her before the Alpha could make a ruling. That was Trudy's story, and she was sticking to it.
