Rugby went ok last weekend. We won, 17-5. But I say ok, not good because we played like crap. I think we all came away from that game feeling like we'd lost. We played St. Joseph's, and they are a decent team, but not great. If we had played our best against them we would have won at least 30-0. Part of the problem was the Ref. Frankly, he was a jack-ass. He has a grudge against our coach (long story), and he let it effect the way he called our game. The most obvious example: St. Jo's was inside our 5 meter line, but we were holding them out of the tri zone. One of our player's shoe came off in a maul. She pulled herself out of play, to the opposite side of the pitch, and started to put her shoe back on. He called a penalty on her for "interfering with play and being lazy getting back into position." He gave St. Jo's the ball, and while we were still trying to figure out what the call was, he signaled start of play and they ran uncontested into our tri zone for the tri. That was their only score of the game. Lame isn't it? But we let the ref get to us, and we didn't play our game. If we had just ignored him and played the way we know how to play, we would have dominated.
But we're still 3-0 in the season (2-0 in our league, Ursinus wasn't technically a league game because they are DIII west and we are PA DIII East, silly, I know) We've got two more league games this season (Swat game is just for fun, it doesn't count toward the league). We have to beat Drexel this Saturday, and LaSalle at the end of October. LaSalle is going to be our biggest competition. If we win both those games we go to Playoffs. Then, if we win Playoffs, we go to Nationals, which I think are in Boston this year. I think we can make it.
Speaking of this weekend, I really don't want to miss Brandywine again. But our game against Drexel doesn't start till 1:00. Even if I skipped the social entirely, I wouldn't get to LARP until around 4:00. And I don't want to skip the social, because we are actually inviting Drexel to party with us. But, I think if Nancy can't come to the social I might skip out on it. I have too much I need to get done at LARP.
Caer Bryn is going well too. Fliers are up, activities email is sent (it's in its pending approval mode right now). I'm kind of frustrated that High Table scheduled it's quidditch game at the same time as our information session though, because I think a lot of the same people would be interested in both. I sent Mara an email trying to work out how to cooperate to conflict as little as possible. Damn the lack of communication between clubs. I would have been happy to schedule my info session at a different time (say, 2-4 instead of 12-2) so as not to conflict if I had known that was when the quidditch game would be, but since we've both already sent out significant amounts of PR, it's too late to change. Oh well, I'm sure it will work out.
Anyway, I have my first big paper for history of philosophy due tomorrow. I, of course, haven't even read the prompts. It's on Socrates, and although I know Socrates fairly well, I'm going to have to re-read a lot too, since I haven't actually read the Apology since freshman year. I think I'm supposed to be comparing Plato's version of Socrates in the Apology to Xenophon's version of Socrates in his version of the Defense. It won't be a hard paper, and it's only 5 pages, but I do have to decide what I want to say and write the damn thing.
So far, in procrastination, I've done my laundry, cleaned my room (mostly), talked game stuff with Dana, and wasted time on LJ and LARP forums. Fun. At some point I am going to have to actually go write my paper.
Edit: It's1:30, I've now re-read both versions of the Apology, and I'm actually going to write the paper. I know exactly what I want to say, so I don't think it should take me long. I've got coffee (thank you Alice!), and I hope to be in bed by 5:00, which will still let me get about 6 hours sleep and still have time to print my paper and do at least some of this week's reading before class at 1:00. Yay for not having any morning classes!
Edit again: Done! At 6:00. It took me an hour longer then I thought it would. Big surprise. I think it's a decent paper though. Just over 5 pages for a 4-5 page paper (though I'll admit I made the margins smaller so that it wouldn't seem too long). I hope I have time to edit it one more time before turning it in. But for now, sleep is good.
