Oh, poot. Have some meme days

Jul 17, 2011 22:13

I'm actually quite surprised that I made it halfway through the month before flaking for more than a day on updating. That's totally a new record for me or something.

This Friday just gone I mostly spent the evening giving a lecture on first aid for animals to a bunch of our clients (this would be the thing that all three of us were supposed to do equally, and which S and I wrote our parts for, then wrote most of B's part for her, and then muggins here got to be the one who has the mystic power of powerpoint (except not, because I use OpenOffice, and microsoft can go DIAF), and therefore got to spend, uh, in excess of 10 hours putting the whole thing together. Then, because S was kinda dead of plague on Friday, guess who got to do most of the presentation as well? Ahahaha). We totes had three of the super weirdo clients turn up and be all---okay, so, look. I'm not one for throwing stones in glass houses on the subject of strangeness, but I do have some kind of social eptness and, seriously, rabbiting on (and never, ever, ever completing your sentences) about whatever comes into your mind while other people are talking will result in other members of the audience telling you to cork it.

*eyeroll*

So there was that.

31 Days of Writing

18. What genres have you written in?

Fantasy, urban fantasy, sci-fi, crack (it's totally a genre), drama, horror, humour and possibly romance if you squint.

19. Do you write long stories, short stories, or both? What's challenging about writing a particular story length?

My longest story currently sits at 96,000 words (not including the vast number of words bound up in the sequels), and my shortest stories are some of those 30 word microfic things I did for a meme once. Short!fic makes me actually think about word choice, and how to get my story across within the constraints. Otherwise, I just ramble on (and on and on).

20. Is your writing generally plot- or character-driven? Why?

Character, because I rarely have actual plots happening on purpose, because that shit totes requires planning stuff in advance, and we've seen how well I do at that.

31. What's your policy on remixes, podfic, and other transformative work?

30 Days of Fanfic

18 - Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

All of the crossovers in my head happen because I think about one canon while doing something involving the other canon (except for Middleman and Thursday Next, because I am flat-out convinced that those two canons can be crossed with anything. Same with Doctor Who. Of the actual things that I've written down and punted out there I...don't know. Well, except for 90% of the Teva sequels, which y'all can totally blame
jehanne1431 for, because she has a history of showing me pictures or having lunch with me and saying "...so, pirates!" or writing snippets herself, and before I know it I'm hip deep in narrative, and Teva's protesting loudly about her vicinity to mud, mushrooms, or something else begining with 'm' (guess in the comments! Give me a story idea!)

19 - When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?

Yes? No? Sometimes? Both?

20 -Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
