Provincial Thoughts Move West

Nov 05, 2007 22:46

I had to take off in a hurry last night because Krista and my dad wanted to watch 'Let's All Hate Toronto', which just made me ponder the differences between provinces even more. So, being that the subject's still fresh in my mind, I guess I shall continue.

(Stop me when I get *too* boring)

Nova Scotia

From what I've seen (and most of what I've seen was when I was still a child), Nova Scotia is kind of like a fancy Newfoundland; but I don't resent it, and Newfoundland certainly doesn't (too much pride). Unfortunately, I don't have a lot more to say about it than that, but the last time I was there I was 13, so my memory of the place is only so-so.

So moving on...

New Brunswick

This was the first province I ever felt attached to, and that's because I lived there for three years (age 4-7... if my math is right). My idea of it as a child versus my idea of it as an adult were vastly different.

When I was young I didn't go very far from my house and school, and only the good memories stuck with my. Swimming in the ocean, adventure in the enarby woods, finding new and inventive ways to give my grade 2 teacher heart attacks.

I went back as an adult and it depressed the hell out of me. Gone were the parks I once played in, and the streets of the enarby 'big' city were littered with garbage and hicks (I'm being nice here).

As far as I can tell, the first province I ever loved is the slums of Canada, slowly falling apart at the hinges.

Quebec

I love Quebec, I love the city Quebec in the winter and Montreal in the summer (when it's not hockey season and slightly safer to say you live in Toronto). I love Gaspe and Perce Rock. I love how their drinking age is 18.

The Quebequois are another story. If Canada were a family, they'd be the rowdy troubled teenager who wants to leave home, for no good reason and with nothing to fall back on. I get annoyed by The Quebequois, and I don't think I'm alone there.

Of all the provinces, I think this is the one I have the most love-hate relationship with.

I'll leave it here for now, for some reason I doubt anyone will read this if I keep going on and on.

Tomorrow: Ontario
