anyone got any experience with nature medicine?

So, last year I started on taking this "nature medicine" against 'a heavy mind' or whatever during the winter. Last year it worked - well, I got out of bed in time for work and uni and meetings and stuff - though if it was actually 'cause of the pills or due to the placebo effect I don't know. Then it became spring and my symptoms disappeared/became less severe as they usual do during spring and summer. And then it started to get dark up her in Norway and I started to get all sad and didn't want to get out of bed - and I started on the pills again. I'm not sure when I started. But it's over a month ago, I think.

Anyway, it's not really helping this time. I'm not moody or sad all the time, sure, but I'm very rarely that, and the biggest symptom for my winter-depression is plain not being able to get out of bed or having any motivation - and I'm really failing at that. Yesterday I stayed in bed until around 5, today it was around 4 in the afternoon, and my motivation for doing anything? Yeah, it's basically non-existing too.

Now, I'm considering upping the dose from 1 pill to 2 pills every day. The description says it should be okay. Though the description also says they should work between 4-6 weeks (last year they worked after 2!) and, well, I think we've crossed at time period by now. But maybe upping the dose will help. After all, I'm further north this time, which might mean I need more or something. IDK.

But there might be another reason to why I'm not experiencing any effect: two days ago I found out that, uh, the pills should have been used before May 2011. You know, like an half year ago. Oops.
So guys, that's something I'm wondering about: can nature medicine, which is outdated with 6 month, still work? Does it loose its effect? Or can it maybe even have the direct opposite effect? Anyone who has any ideas about this? Experiences? I'm googling it right now, but I all I can find is that internation research claim a bigger dose than what is normally recommended in DK (my package says 1-2 pills per day), and I don't have much time left to do so before I have to deal with Serious Business, so any help would be appreciated.
The pills is with hypericum/St. John´s Wort ('perikon' in Danish), if that matters.

Honestly, I would prefer not to use them as there is one side-effect I am really not happy about, but if they can improve my situation atm, then I'm okay with risking it. After all, there are ways to deal with the side-effect and I only have this month before I have an alternative. I'm not really pleased with my inability to get out of bed and focus and stuff; it's seriously damaging, especially when I have an exam coming up in two weeks and am working on several serious things, such as writing a thesis, finding a job, and apartment hunting. Uh yeah.
