I think I know why the cherry pickers are always raised high. :)

The controls for them are in the bucket. Without a key, they're a bit harder to steal.

1. Who'd want to steal one of those things?
2. Anybody who really does want to steal one, could just climb up there and work the controls, ya?

Makes for a nice visual though. Like they're watching the night sky for the signal to return home.

2. Yeah, but that's WORK.

There's a place we pass sometimes by that always raises a bunch up like that. For some reason, I always see them as a single unit: a hand with many fingers, reaching out and waiting for someone to take its hand in theirs.

(And in December, they raise one all the way up and put a lit Christmas tree on top!)

It's sort of a method of advertisement. "Hey we have cherry pickers. This one is very tall, this one not so much".
