It Is Really Hard To Sing Through Tears

Aug 22, 2010 23:37

I am singing again. Tonight I attended my first rehearsal with Resounding Harmony, a mixed SATB chorus conducted by Dr. Tim Seelig, formerly with Turtle Creek Chorale. I am not the only former Turtle Creek Chorale member who has gravitated to this group.

Resounding Harmony was founded specifically to sing concerts to raise money for local charities. Every autumn, there is a concert benefiting the North Texas Food Bank. In the spring, the charity has varied and this coming spring the beneficiary is Children's Medical Center of Dallas. That is it - rehearsals from 6-8 on Sunday nights, two concerts a year and no politics. Resounding Harmony decided not to join the GALA Choruses movement as the feeling was that GALA's mission statement really did not mesh with the RH statement. It will be a little strange to be in a chorus that is not in GALA for the first time since I sang church choir about 25 years ago.

Anyway, the music is phenomenal. The singing through tears came on one particular song, The Famine Song by VIDA. Resounding Harmony sang it last year and is keeping it in the repertoire for this season as well. I saw them perform this last year in concert and was reduced to a weeping mess. I was pretty much the same this afternoon and again tonight after finding this video of the performance from last year on youtube.

Anyway, I have posted before how much a spiritual experience singing is for me and am VERY happy that I have once again found an outlet where I can feel safe enough to share this love and depth of emotion again.

music, singing, emotions
