5+ weeks to Bayshore.
In marathon training terms, that's not that far away. I did my last non-race key workout on Monday, which went well considering the weather. I tried something new, which was 2 blocks of 6 mile tempo runs at about marathon pace minus 5-10 seconds. It was a windy, cold/cool day, and I just didn't stay on pace well, with a lot of them being in the sub 7 range, and a couple well slower. The average pace was 7:05, which is MP- 8 seconds, so I suppose, if you were optimistic, you could say the workout was a success, and I'm the optimistic sort. One of the focuses for the workout was to stay near marathon pace at the end of each block when I felt the most tired. I felt like I did well to maintain that focus through increasing fatigue, especially finishing into the wind like I did.
I feel like I'm already tweaking a little bit for this race, just have to relax and realize that the work I'm doing is going to be more than enough to get me over the top. It doesn't help that this week is the weekly run up to Boston, and a lot of people I know on-line are also tweaking pretty hard in advance of next Monday. Just relax and have fun!
