So, another week, another weekly mileage PR. 81 miles. That's definitely the max this cycle, and maybe as much as I'll be able to muster without doing daily doubles. It's also far more than I would have ever guessed I would be able to do with work and other life events going on at the same time. (81 miles is about 11 hours of running this week). This week was the last, best, time to do it, and this week seems to have been a natural peak for max distance for both the marathon and the half marathon cycle. After this, the distance goes down to more reasonable numbers...
Someone in the swamp posted
this article from a master's runner named Pete Magill which really resonated with me.
In it he speaks less of magic workouts, and more about fundamentals of running (like that age old mantra: "Run often, mostly slow, but sometimes fast). He writes about finding a rhythm in running, and adapting that rhythm to perceived weaknesses in whatever event you are ultimately training for.
I feel like I've really found a rhythm this spring again, much like the rhythm that led to success late last fall. Running 6-7 days, sometimes hard, but mostly easy, seems to have really made it easy to find it. Lets hope what I'm doing will lead to success.
It's something worth contemplating on those long runs this spring...
