I've been cleaning out the gutters today. Behind one of the speakers was an old wren nest, from a couple of years ago. I pulled it out to clear out the site for a new nest... and discovered that it's in current use, with several eggs and a new hatchling! Eek! We went on Saturday and had a lot of fun. I think I actually like it better than the other two Texas faires we've been to - the shade was nice, the price was right, and the proximity made it a reasonable drive with two small kids. The kids have made friends with the diagonal-backyard neighbor children. They have been warned, repeatedly, not to try to climb on or over the wooden privacy fence or the scraggly little trees. They are free to talk to each other over the fence and to pass stuff over, though, and they've had one play date at the neighbors' house so far (with more ( Read more... )

Yesterday I made some progress on the laundry, though I didn't finish, so now there's a mountain of clean laundry on the couch, which I need to put away before the cat decides it's too nice a bed to pass up (well... any more than she already has). Back from camping. Managed not to freeze to death. Actually had a fun time.

Bad: 18" cedar elm sapling growing in the gutters on the back of my house.

Good: sapling, along with the leaves and other accumulated detritus, removed and tossed in the back corner of the yard to continue turning into dirt.
