Happy 4th of July!
Yesterday, Andrea and I met one of my train buddies at the local movie theater and we went to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I thought it was a good move (not as great as the first but good). There were explosions, car chases (with amazing cars), and a lot of humor. I thought there were a few problems with the plot but over all I enjoyed it. Once again, I thought that Sam’s parents were played perfectly and I just love them.
After the movie, Andrea and I headed to the animal shelter to look at cats. I have been talking about getting a cat for a while but had been holding off until Andrea was home for the summer. The plan had been just to look for a cat, I wanted a cat that was between 6 months to 2 years old and I did not want to get a brown tabby because that is what Jean Luke is. Nothing went according to plan.
The first cat I looked at was 10 years old and a Siamese mix. She had fluffy hair and was just beautiful but when we got her into the ‘play room’ she wasn’t very active. The second cat we looked at was 1 year old and a gray cat. Also on the fluffy side but once again really wasn’t active. Andrea loves brown tabby cats and pointed out this cute 2 month old kitten. I decided to take it back to the room just to see what it was like but stated I was not going to get a brown tabby.
I walked out of the shelter a proud owner of a 2 month old, brown tabby cat. She was playful, a climber, cuddly, and just too sweet for words. I couldn’t leave her in the shelter. I went through the checks with the local animal control and had a chip put in her. While we were waiting we started trying to think of names for the kitten and Andrea just said “Athena” as a joke but I loved it. Athena is the Greek Goddess of War and Wisdom. Perfect for a cat. So Athena (no middle name yet) came home with us.
We are slowly introducing her to Jean Luke (who has ruled the apartment for the last year). We are keeping them in separate rooms and just getting them used to each other’s scents. So far there has been a lot of hissing and growling but I have a feeling that will stop in a couple of days.
Athena is spending time in my room laying on my bed and playing with me. Much to our delight she chases the laser pointer that we bought. (Jean Luke is too dignified for that). She is very cuddly and talks a lot. I am already loving her!
