I finally understand why people who sign up for the "101 Things in 1001 Days" challenge often list "Finish my 101 Things list" as one of their goals. It's bloody hard to come up with that many things that can be reasonably done in about three years.
Some of it has to do with the way I categorize, I suspect. For example, I would probably count "Complete 15 short stories" as 15 separate items, because they are intividual projects with individual completion points. However, I consider "Read 450 books" one item, both because I really do read that much that fast and because the entire point of setting that goal is to reach the specific amount. I mean, heck, I'm going to read a tonne of books regardless, so I might as well set a goal with it.
I also feel a little like I'm cheating with things like "Finish B.A.s in English and Drama" because I know that's going to happen in about a year (unless the friggin' CA State educational system screws me over in irreversable and tentacly ways). However, finishing my undergrad is a huge milestone in my life, so I also feel like it's silly not to have it on the list.
I guess it all comes down to the fact that I've been putting off officially starting my 101/1001 Project because I feel like I have to have the list completely established before I can really start. And I think maybe that's my way of chickening out on setting deadlines. I need to get better at setting deadlines for myself and sticking to them, but this has the added bonus of other people watching me, at least in my head, which is a great motivatior. I'm really good at churning out chapters during NaNoWriMo, because there are rewards for "winning" and people watching to see if I do. This at least gives me the illusion of the same thing, but without any truly horrific consequences if I fail.
So maybe I should stop angsting about it and just start. I think I'll go to the "official" website and look at the sorts of things people put to get more inspriation for variety. But I think sometime this week I need to bite the bullet and get this sucker rolling.
