I seem to be out of sync with my flist lately.
Last ep I was really excited by the idea of the ep, and then ended up quite disappointed with the writing. The mental hospital ep had so much potential and they didn't mine it for crap. Also, the whole pudding thing creeped me the fuck out. It's just not my kind of humor.
This time I had very low expectations and ended up liking the ep more than I expected. Yes, I am saddened by the ubiquitous bitch this and bitch that and the overall gender fail, but it's not like that surprises me. And yes, the writers showed once again that cheap jokes are more important than consistent character development, again no surprise. I did think the driving thing was funny, though not crazy about the return of incredibly stupid Dean.
rivers_bend had some interesting ideas about that.
Maybe it's partly due to remaining completely unspoiled, so that I was unaware that there was going to be a body swap episode at all, and so didn't have time to build up any hope for a Dean-Sam swap, but I was pleasantly surprised through most of this. What with the inconsistent characterizations we've had, I don't know how they could have worked swappping the boys convincingly anyway.
But here's what really, really is worrying me. We seem to be getting a lot of hints about Dean wanting that apple pie, wife and kids life. Is this setting up some sort of scenario where Dean is seduced away from hunting by some heavy het love affair, and the abandonment is what causes Sam to give in to Lucifer? Then, of course, the woman turns out to be evil? Please don't let that happen, because unless Dean is actually under a love spell or something, I am going to have trouble still believing in my beloved Sam/Dean if he trips off, even temporarily, with some random person for something other than a brief fling. And if he is under a spell, then I would expect Sam to move heaven and earth to get him back. So if he doesn't, and instead starts fluttering around with Lucifer, it again fucks up my Sam/Dean.
