I finally had time to watch the last episode.
Why is this show not more popular? I mean, White Collar is admittedly adorable, and I'm enjoying it, but the whole smooth talking, lady killing con man doesn't really appeal to me. I hate guys like that in real life, and I don't like them in shows either. It's the reason I resisted Supernatural for so long. I kept hearing about this charming, handsome love 'em and leave 'em Dean Winchester guy, which is a real turn off to me because I don't actually like men who use women, and it was only after I found out about the vulnerability of the character, and saw him getting shot down by a woman, that I started getting drawn in to the show. G has huge amounts of that vulnerability, and though he is supposedly this big undercover man of a thousand faces type, he's quiet and unobtrusive about it, and coupled with Sam's intelligence and protective nature, it's a win in my book.
I like the way Sam directed G around the side of the scientist's house when they heard something breaking, and G went without hesitation. Not sure what to make of the little old lady scientist. My first impression was negative, she seemed to be being played for laughs. But, on the other hand, lady research scientist, and she was very competent when asked any kind of science question. I ended up liking her. I like the way Sam jumped to the old lady's defense: "Only she's not evil, she's vulnerable because of her alzheimer's."
Anyway,it wasn't the most original or fascinating plot in the world, but they always make sure to throw in some little slashy bits for me, which is nice:
G to Sam: "You look good in a robe."
G to Hettie (talking about Sam): "Big guy does not like to be nudged." Significant look. "I'll be gentle." Heeeeee! What can I say about that?
Then we have a little simultaneous talk from the guys, which is always fun. They dress Sam up, and he's looking good. I approve of all the Man from Uncle type gadgets, too.
And then we have this:
Kensi: "You guys know each other pretty well, huh?"
G: "We should. We've been together longer than most married couples in this town." That little smile G has as he thinks about that!
The whole tired plot was worth it for the ending, when G sees the vial has broken in his hand, and Sam plows into him screaming frantically at him and the touching and the looking and Sam's soft, oh so concerned, earnest voice explaining "It's the antidote, G." The eye contact and the touching. Okay, I had to rewind and rewatch that part a few times. Sam's face, which is usually so stoic, was so open and earnest. OMG they are both so gorgeous. And then that commanding tone of Sam's when he says,"Just keep the vial under water." Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
And then Sam goes to help the old lady. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
I approve.
