Paradigm shifts

Mute Math are debuting a new song on the Twilight soundtrack, and reportedly wrote some music for a scene in the film. Something tells me these boys have NO. IDEA. what they're getting into, and are simply going "yay exposure!" It kills me. Guys! Just, el oh el. And of course, Muse is on there too, because Stephenie Meyer claims their ( Read more... )

Heh, well, I'm not necessarily unhappy about the inclusion, just... amused. Twilight is a crazy phenomenon in fandom; people are absolutely faint-worthy wild about it (mostly teen girls), to the point where they overran and out-geeked the geeks at Comic-Con with their fervor. But the books' lackluster prose and occasionally batty story decisions make it an easy target for mocking among the elitists, and the godawful casting for the film version has only accentuated that. This leads to much insane in-fighting and drama that makes me want to sit back and break out the popcorn.

I'll be shocked if the film doesn't make a killing at the box office, because the books sell like mad... and I'll likely see it just for the aforementioned popcorn factor (to be fair, the series is legitimately addictive and the characters are compelling, but their film realizations leave much to be desired so far).

So, the fact that Mute Math - of all bands - are so heavily involved with this whole thing is a bit of a culture shock for me. Worlds colliding!

And yes, "Supermassive" is a GREAT song and I'm sure it'll entice many a new listener, which I'm sure was a factor in its inclusion. Plus, the lyrics go with Edward and Bella's romance, I suppose. Sort of.

Oh man, Twilight is ten levels of weirdness, trust me. ;)

That makes sense. From the time I started hearing so much about it, with crazed fans even among my own friends, I figured it was a vampire version of Harry Potter. I'm not saying I expect the story to be the same, just that it has the same feel as far as the phenomenon goes. From where I'm sitting at least.

Oh, I'm sure it will make a killing. It's going to be the movie equivalent of The Backstreet Boys and N*sync era boy band explosion. Covenant used the boy band formula to try to draw the young girls audience in, but it didn't have a giant preexisting fan base like Twilight. That's what I see happening, anyway. In any case, I'll be seeing it as well. Hey, it's a vampire movie with a big budget!

My only beef with Mute Math and Muse being involved is what it will do to their fan base. I'm selfish and don't like the idea of sharing them with a bunch of teenage girls, even if it does secure their careers. Sigh.

Speaking of Twilight and music, I can't remember how, but I stumbled onto Stephenie Meyer's MySpace page last week without even knowing who she was. Me being me, the first thing I looked at was her music list, and was surprised to discover Gomez near the top. Overrated or not, it looks like she at least has good tast in music.

By the way, LOVE the new pic! Batman Beyond owns! =)
