It's ironic that on the Canada Day stat holiday, I took the day off "work" in town, and worked 10x harder here on the farm! I am tired and sore - aching all over, but it's all good.
We got some important work done today: I finally installed a switch on the big yard-light so that I can turn it off for star-gazing, or for when the photo-eye fails (as it did recently) and it won't turn off by itself in the day-time. We cut down about an acre's worth of grass all around the house, and hauled it over to the compost pile. It's a shame to have to waste it like that, but there is no practical way to bale it for hay, so it goes in the pile. :/
When I went around to the east side of the quonset-shop, I got an unpleasant surprise: The storm on Wednesday had toppled the 1000-gallon fuel-tank! The stand was tipped over and resting on the smaller 100-gallon tank, and the 1000-gallon tank had rolled about 15 feet away! Fortunately, there wasn't any fuel in it at the time, or this would have been a disaster! It's also fortuntate that I moved the utility trailer from the east-side of the shop to the north-side of the garage, or it would have been crushed when the fuel-tank came down right where it had been sitting! I would imagine that it would have done a lot of damage to the tank as well!
In a way, this is a good thing: The tank doesn't appear to have suffered any damage, and this takes care of the problem of "How to Take It Down?" There's a new law coming into effect banning these big tanks up on the stands - they have to be lowered to the ground, or gotten rid of completely (too many people getting injured falling from the stands when refilling them!) Now that the tank is on the ground again, I don't have to worry about trying to lift it off the stand with the tractor's FEL. What I need to do now is cut the legs off the stand to make it a lot shorter, and then get a 12-volt fuel-pump to pump fuel from the tank since it won't be able to work via gravity-feed anymore. I had planned to do this anyway, so this is just a nudge in that direction!
Here's hoping my fellow Canadians had a more relaxing holiday! I don't even get the pleasure of a long-weekend, since I have to go into town and open the shop again tomorrow!
