I'm trying to figure out what is best for my mare training-wise.

Why is this horse on Smartpaks?

I don't mean to be rude, but all the hugging, humming, mane braiding, customized supplements, and hunter green tack in the world is not going to get this horse to respect you. If this horse does not learn how to respect you - and you don't learn how to gain that respect - you are going to get injured, or possibly worse. You need to wake up to the reality that you are dealing with a dangerous situation, one that is most likely beyond your scope of properly channeling into a productive one.

Yes, work with a trainer. Stop investing your money into Smartpaks, grain, and colour coordinated tack and invest into training - training for yourself *and* for your mare. Better yet - take this horse back to the person you bought it from and try to get your money back. Then invest in a horse who is sound, sane, and broken to your riding and handling level.

I can not stress to you how many warning bells ring from reading your post. If you are oblivious to them, then please take what you read here amongst all of the posted comments as a wake-up call to this is being a dangerous situation that should be taken seriously - this horse does not respect you, and is more than likely going to end up hurting you badly if you continue down the road you are on.
