Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen a ghost?
Tell me your ghost stories. Real or fictional.
I do believe in ghosts, although the thought of them kind of makes me sad.
I've experienced the kind of typical low-level maybe it is/maybe it's not ghost sightings -- things crashing to the ground when no one's around, items inexplicably disappearing, feeling presences with familiar smells, orbs in photos, stuff like that.
The one time I'm pretty sure I did encounter a ghost, I was staying in a motel on a trip where I was doing genealogy research. I had a bad dream and woke up and there was this big, green, angry ectoplasmic face-thing hovering on the other side of the room. It didn't do anything, but just seeing it scared the hell out of me. I pulled the covers over my head and told myself it wasn't real.
The next night I tried to determine whether it could have been light pollution or odd shadows, but the room was dark. I mention the genealogy because maybe reading records and visiting cemeteries could have made the link, or maybe it was just the motel. I also know that this kind of thing falls under the "thought you were awake but were still asleep" explanation, and sounds pretty weak in terms of ghost stories. But I believe it was a ghost, and it made me believe that there *are* ghosts.
OK, now that you've heard my lame-ass personal ghost story, tell me a better one.
